It is not manageable to buy a different Q each time we want another focal length. Please Leica let us choose. Make a QL with a set of small lenses. And voilà. Instant success. No need for Q4. 2
Advertisement Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Hi nicci78, Take a look here Q3 43 is the proof that we need a QL now. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted September 30, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 30, 2024 No we don't: we need an EVF-M.........wait, that's a M-L...........though a M-sized SL would be best........but a full frame CL would sell better. The small lenses thing is the issue with L mount and full frame camera with autofocus in general. Without leaf shutters your QL would be a S9 with EVF; a toy 26/8 is not the answer. On the other hand, an EVF M solves the size issue with far less R&D cost and challenges. Le Chef Posted September 30, 2024 Share #4 Posted September 30, 2024 You might as well get a Fuji XT-5 and a bag of lenses to keep you going until Leica builds something like this. Or buy a couple of preowned CL’s and a bag of TL lenses. No need to wait for Leica.
darylgo Posted September 30, 2024 Share #5 Posted September 30, 2024 Panasonic has it, compatible with Leica lenses, they have their own smaller and lighter lenses also. The S9 is getting great reviews.

You assume a manual camera will have the same market share of an autofocus camera. It won't. Autofocus is a very important requirement for most people, me included.

Le Chef Posted September 30, 2024 Share #8 Posted September 30, 2024 With the S9 you have an electronic shutter only, and still have larger-than-life L mount lenses. As M owners and former T/TL/TL2 owners know the Visoflex solution is less optimal than a built in EVF. You can only hope that Panasonic and Sigma design and manufacturer small L mount lenses sometime in the next 5 years to match a small version of the SL.

There's also the Sigma 28-70 or the Panasonic 20-60 for zooms. Here's a quick comparison with the Sigma 50 and 24mm. Note that the 24mm has the lens hood on Welcome, dear visitor! All the S9 needs is a mechanical shutter and an EVF......which take up no space at all........😁 Edited September 30, 2024 by LocalHero1953

The S9 is getting great reviews. I have the 21mm APO SL and have thought about the S9/21 as a wide solution to carry with the Q3 43. The lack of viewfinder is an issue, but the bigger problem is the electronic shutter. The readout speed isn’t fast enough to avoid rolling shutter in some cases. There is also a setting to minimize banding from artificial light, but I believe the fastest shutter speed you can use is 1/120 with that feature.

For the EVF there’s the ready available M11’s Visoflex though I was quite excited when I saw the first picture of the S9 because of its compact design but then I figure out that camera is not designed for photography but content creators. I would also need the option to use a flash and as far as I understand the S9 can not use flashes because of its electronic shutter design. I would be o.k. with the Visoflex but a built in EVF would require less space in a bag. I greatly prefer a flip-up screen like the Q3(43) to a flip-out screen. All that means a complete redesign to make it a camera for photography.

nicci78 Posted September 30, 2024 Author Share #18 Posted September 30, 2024 S9 is dumb, no mechanical shutter and no EVF = game over. See Sigma fp and fp L...
Mr Perceptive Posted September 30, 2024 Share #19 Posted September 30, 2024 One big advantage of fixed lens cameras (for the designers) is that you don't need to incorporate a lens mount, so the optics can often be pushed further into the body. As soon as you have a lens mount (especially a robust one), then the whole package becomes much bigger (and heavier), and if Leica were to introduce an interchangeable lens Q series then they would probably use the L-mount, so from day 1 they have a range of AF FF optics, a different mount would mean a very limited number of initial lenses, and then a new release every so aften. An L mount Q is going to be very similar to other L-mount systems.
gotium Posted September 30, 2024 Share #20 Posted September 30, 2024 Well I agree wholeheartedly, but for the sake of size would like to see it with an APS-C sensor
