Advertisement Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 Hi algrove, Take a look here Want the Q3 43 over the Q3 28? Or already own Q3 28 and also want the Q3 43?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
algrove Posted September 28, 2024 Author Share #2 Posted September 28, 2024 I for one own the Q3 28 and will have the Q3 43 Monday for what I consider the ultimate light weight full frame travel kit. Just think, take the Q3 28 to 35mm and the Q 3 43 to 75mm for a nice 35/75 kit. Sure you suffer some MP, but even 30MP is plenty large enough for what most of us print and way large enough for online activities. Frankly I shoot at 60MP and then crop in post.

Pierre68 Posted September 28, 2024 Share #4 Posted September 28, 2024 Have the Q2 and bought the Q3 43 today. Perfect combo in my view.
kkochheiser Posted September 28, 2024 Share #5 Posted September 28, 2024 I now have both, plus a Q2M. Something’s got to go eventually! The Q3 combo will be great for travel. Headed to London with my wife next week for our anniversary which should be a great test of the 43. I also shoot to 60MP and crop but occasionally use the frame lines to limit the light meter’s field of view. Kent

I just received a Q3 43 and an M1-D today. Two completely different cameras. I like both ways of photography. I have not yet opened the two models. I currently own a Q3 28 and an MD (also without screen 24MP). In answer to your question: Q3 28 - actually makes quite good pictures at 50mm and acceptable pictures at 75mm - So would it really be wise to open the Q3 28? Is the difference that big in daily work and will I take two cameras with me to be able to also get 28mm pictures? I doubt it. Maybe it's GAS.... ☺️

Thanks.

bobtodrick Posted September 30, 2024 Share #11 Posted September 30, 2024 I still have my original Q…no desire for Q3/Q43. But then all I do is take pictures with mine 😂😂😂😂 3
LocalHero1953 Posted September 30, 2024 Share #12 Posted September 30, 2024 Q2 owner here. This is something I’ve thought about long and hard since the Q3 43 came out and the quality of the lens became apparent. I’ve also reached the same decision, twice! I looked at my LR catalogue, checking the cropping of a random selection of images. I decided there were too many travel shots that I liked at 28mm (landscape, cityscape and interiors) and ‘would regret not having taken’ if you see what I mean. So losing 28mm for travel didn’t seem sensible. Nevertheless there are also quite a lot that I haven’t taken because I don’t have a longer focal length: I could use it as a lighter and more discrete camera than the SL2-S for performance photography and other events. So it is tempting to have both 28 and 43. But tempting doesn’t mean sensible. I wouldn’t take both travelling: my travel bag already holds one or two film cameras alongside the Q2 (M for colour, Barnack for mono), and I often take a separate backpack for large format. And it’s rare that I would want to shoot a stage performance with just a 43: tonight I used the 90-280SL as well. A Q3 43 would be yet more weight to move around in a backpack. Conclusion: I’ll stick with the Q2 for the moment, and perhaps get a Q3 28 sometime.
Camaro5 Posted September 30, 2024 Share #13 Posted September 30, 2024 I have a Q3 28 and have always been more of a wide-angle shooter. For as nice as I'm sure the Q3 43 is, for me to have two of (basically) the same camera would be totally impractical. I would rather have a more versatile interchangeable lens camera than two Q3's. SrMi Posted October 1, 2024 Share #14 Posted October 1, 2024 Sometimes, I plan to shoot with a 28mm and sometimes with a 43mm lens, with no intention of cropping to simulate a longer lens. I am not sure whether I would take both cameras with me. Instead, I may take CL + 18mm and Q3 43.
aficionados Posted October 1, 2024 Share #15 Posted October 1, 2024 I recently travelled to Croatia with two settings : M11 + 28 summicron Fuji x-t50 with a cv 27f2 (equivalent to 41) I found I shot fuji more. So I bought Q3/43

I'm not getting the Q3 43....yet. For now I'll carry the Q3 which covers my most frequently used FLs, although there is some overlap with the Q3 43 at the longer end. For the times I want to shoot 75 or longer, I have M10 and SL2-S cameras and longer lenses to use with these cameras. But for travel and a single lens, AF camera carry, I'll stay with the Q3 28 alone for now, crop when needed.

Le Chef Posted October 1, 2024 Share #19 Posted October 1, 2024 I’ve checked EXIF data on my CL and most shots are around 28 - 35 equivalent. My Q3 is obviously 28, so I see no point in adding a Q343 based on EXIF data, when I still have a Sigma 56 f1.4 and a TL 55-135 for longer use. Olaf_ZG Posted October 1, 2024 Share #20 Posted October 1, 2024 The og Q was my introduction to Leica, sold it for a M. Bought the Q2, as it has some advantages over a m: weather proof, one hand usage, but sold it as 28mm is not for me. For that reason I didn’t bought a Q3. I will buy the q343 though.
