All the B+w works, regardless t-pro or master or basic. The rim thickness is not of much difference. They all work with Q3 43 hood on. And none of them work when macro mode is engaged. So it doesn’t matter whichever one you choose or not choose 1
Advertisement Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Hi aficionados, Take a look here Filters for Q3 43. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
haelio Posted October 7, 2024 Author Share #122 Posted October 7, 2024 I believe that the eins filters are even thinner than these B+W ones, and while the happily sit within the hood they still don't work with macro mode.

Yeah it doesn’t matters as of which filter to use, regardless it’s B+W or EINS, neither works with macro. There is no point to try EINS in my opinion, it’s less known or reputable than B+W Edited October 7, 2024 by aficionados

Quoting myself to say B + W 49mm Master 806M ND 1.8 6-Stop MRC Nano Neutral Density Filter does indeed fit on lens under OEM lens hood (in standard, non-macro, mode.) Trankster Posted October 8, 2024 Share #125 Posted October 8, 2024 I have been using the round hood and a pinch lens cap for several years after the stock lens cap would not stay on my old Q2. The round hood is an easy solution here and makes adding/changing filters a snap.

Seems like it would work fine for flare, but doesn't look like it'd keep dust off the front element when cap is on while on safari. ~

I have noticed only occasional dust when walking around with no lens cap, and always carry a small bulb blower in my bag for those times. (I took different cameras with longer lenses and solid hoods on safari last year. Lots of dust to wipe off and blow off on every drive.) haelio Posted October 10, 2024 Author Share #128 Posted October 10, 2024 I've finally found a "solution" to this problem. It's a combination of suggestions from others in this forum. I use: The original hood that came with the camera, An eins ultra thin filter (ordered directly from the manufacturer in Japan), Screw in the hood until is is exactly 360° short of being fully on (so that the Leica text on the hood it at the top) A tiny amount of tape on the threads for the hood to ensure that the hood doesn't rotate despite not being tightened fully This allows me to have the original hood, a UV filter and enable macro mode without the filter hitting the hood. There is also no vignetting with this setup. I'm "happy" with this setup for now, but am pretty disappointed that Leica didn't mould the interior of the hood to allow for a filter, or just extend the internal dimensions by 0.8mm to make this problem go away. I've bought numerous camera bodies, most of them cheaper than this one and have never had to implement a hacky DiY solution for basic functionality. Hopefully Leica do better in future. Likaleica Posted October 10, 2024 Share #129 Posted October 10, 2024 My OEM Leica hood works with the B+W 010 UV-Haze MRC nano filter, but not in macro mode. But at least the hood screws on completely and I don't have to resort to a loose hood taped into position. Welcome, dear visitor! It's the Haoge round hood, that comes with a clip-on lens cap with a lanyard. With this macro works, of course, and you can access filters without removing the hood. With very little inconvenience, now I can use filters such as UV for front lens element protection, polarizer to reduce reflections, ND to allow creative freedom, etc. hood: https://haogefoto.com/products/haoge-lh-lq-metal-lens-hood-shade-with-cap-for-leica-q-q2-q-p-qp-typ-116-typ116-camera-black filter, if you want to use the OEM hood and don't care about macro: https://www.glazerscamera.com/products/b-w-49mm-master-clear-uv?variant=40060771860525
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! For shooting directly into strong light, or even off axis, probably true. But for more oblique light I think it will suffice. Mostly, with flare so minimal in modern lenses, I use it as an additional protection device.

egrossman Posted October 12, 2024 Share #139 Posted October 12, 2024 No it’s not. Leica screwed up not shipping the camera with a hood that works as it should. They should fix it and ship this hood to all Q3 43 buyers. Erik 5
