Filters for Q3 43

Reports state that due to the hood being shallow (probably to keep overall dimensions the same as the Q3 28), many filters don’t fit with the hood attached. Ultra slim ones like the B+W Nano do fit under the hood but hit the hood partway though moving to macro mode as this results in the inner barrel of the lens moving forward.

I now it’s still early days, but has anyone found a solution that works with the hood attached _and_ with me to mode?

Looking at this thread:

suggests a solution (UN Eins filters) but trying to source the item is proving rather difficult, at least outside of Japan or China.

I tried using the Q3 lens hood with a regular size filter on Q43 hoping that would solve isssue. Not good, the Q3 lens hood doesn’t fully go on new lens, ends up crooked. Guess needs an other row of threads to completely end up where it should be.

I shoot a lot of adult show events at bars & nightclubs where water & alcohol sometimes goes flying around on the stage lol. Or it’s packed with people holding drinks at the front so I need a filter to protect the lens. Especially with a built in lens, if it gets damaged I got a 7k brick.

I don’t use macro mode that much on my Q3 but just messing around with Q43 right now I  can tell I’ll be using it lot more to get close up detail shots at car shows.

My Q3 & Q2M always had a filter & hood, it was great. Hopefully Leica will come out with a new hood that will fit standard filter & work with macro mode.

I'm wondering the same and will be buying the eins slim filter to see if it works.

Have you found anywhere that it’s available? I tried buyee.jp but despite accepting the order initially they told me a few hours later that they were out of stock.

The instructions mention that to use a filter with a lens hood (edit And use Macro mode) that a different hood is purchased #19658 https://leica-camera.com/en-GB/photography/accessories/lens-hoods/lens-hood-q-black/shop-now

I just ordered a Haoge hood for the Q3. I'll see if it fits nicely on the 43 or not.

I ordered their round one, too.  Fingers crossed.  It's about $200 less than the Leica round hood.

Oh, I ordered the square one. It will make the lens even longer, but I think it won’t introduce any vignetting while still fitting a filter in it.

I posted elsewhere that if you use the optional ventilated hood for the Q system, you can use any filter with the Q3 43. In the pic below, I'm using a Tiffen 1/8 Black Pro Mist filter.

So, there no vignetting with this ventilated hood?

So you can fit filters to the Q3 43? I have watched some YouTube videos, which suggest you can not fit filters? I have a Leica E-49 filter, which fits perfectly under the ‘standard’ lens hood on the Q3 28 - would this fit the Q3 43 too? Thanks… Such conflicting information… C.

The lens has filter threads, but the default hood is too tight to fit over an attached filter.

Slimmer filters do allow the hood to be attached, but you can’t then engage macro mode as this moves the lens barrel forward within the hood. This extension results in the filter hitting the inside of the hood before macro mode is fully engaged.

Please report back on this.  The inability to use filters with the OEM hood is frustrating.

This is my experience as well. I even tried it with the ultra slim b+w titan clear filter and no luck…

So the (somewhat bitter) truth is : With the regulär hood you can‘t use a filter because otherwise the marco mode is blocked.
