Advertisement Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Hi Tseg, Take a look here Q3 43 - what will you be using for your wide option (if anything)?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

If you have a chance, try the APO 21 SL (assuming you're talking about the L Mount). There is little to no distortion with it and it can easily be cropped in to 24mm. I currently carry the SL3/21APO and Q3 43 and love the combination - except for the weight.

bwfree Posted February 6 Share #47 Posted February 6 Advertisement (gone after registration) Someone else said it here, but I'll say it again: if you're trying to travel light with just the Leica Q3 43, and you worry about missing those wider shot options: 1) use your 13mm iPhone (or Android) phone lens, or 2) stitch together multiple shots from your 43 in lightroom.
keithlaban.co.uk Posted February 6 Share #48 Posted February 6 (edited) Nikon Z7, Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Super Wide Heliar in Z mount. Similar size and weight as my Q3 43. The Z7 also gives me short telephoto options. Edited February 6 by keithlaban.co.uk

This is mostly what I plan to fall back on. If I know I’m going on a photo trip, I’ll bring my A7CR + the 20-70mm most likely.
AdHox Posted February 6 Share #50 Posted February 6 When travelling with a Q3, that’s always been my only camera - that has worked well for me for most of my travels since mid 2023 when I bought the Q3. If I plan on needing multiple focal lengths for a trip, then I’ll take a system with two (maybe three) interchangeable lenses. That system could be my CL with appropriate lenses covering 11mm to 135mm (16mm to 200mm equivalent). Since I last returned from Japan in November I’ve swapped my Q3 28 for a Q3 43. I expect my approach will be the same, just with less cropping, but I haven’t been able to test that theory as I promptly caught whooping cough and still haven’t fully recovered some months later. Almost at the stage where I feel like planning more adventures. Having said I like to carry just a Q3, I suppose the CL + 11-23 would a reasonably compact complement to go wide.
Le Chef Posted February 7 Share #51 Posted February 7 I still have a Q3 28 which I would use if taking a camera to shoot landscapes. If I were shooting the interiors of old buildings then my older CL + TL 11-23 would be my choice.
Rick in CO Posted February 7 Share #52 Posted February 7 When traveling and weight is an issue, Q3 43 and M10R with 24mm Elmar or, with a single camera the M10R with 28/35/50 Tri-Elmar.
BradS Posted February 7 Share #53 Posted February 7 (edited) I think that if you have a Q3 (either one really) and feel the need to carry another camera, you have probably missed the point would be better off with an interchangeable lens camera. Opinion noted, but you missed the point of the thread. It may be not be more bulky to carry around two compact cameras than one SL-2/3 with an SL zoom lens or a couple of primes. Is it faster and more convenient to change a lens than replace and pull out another camera from the bag? My experience with the Tri-Elmar on my M camera has shown that 60-70% of my shots are with the 50mm focal length. I almost never use anything longer and so the Q3 43 with a wide angle on a second camera body just might work for me. I chose 24mm for the M10R as 28 is too close to 43mm and I have always preferred a slightly wider perspective than 28mm. If something happens to the Q3 43 I have the Tri-Elmar as backup, or vice versa. As I travel I am also sensitive to getting dust on the sensor and being safe - in Africa, India, and others places it's better not to be changing lenses even surreptitiously. I'm presently experimenting with the Q3 43, so this thread is of interest to me for what others might be considering as alternatives. 3
peterpw Posted February 12 Share #55 Posted February 12 I'd go with existing gear - for me depending on circumstances and how I'm feeling about things, either a M6 with a 28 or the Ricoh GRIII. I now also have the D-Lux 8, I'm just getting comfortable with it. But tbh, I'm almost always happier with bringing just one camera, 9 out of 10 it's either the Q3 43 or the M6. I guess the way my brain works is that I'm more in tune when I spend the day looking in just one way.

Knarf Posted February 24 Share #57 Posted February 24 OK how about going the other way, longer focal lens for wildlife etc? At present I have a Q3 43 and an SL2-s with 24-70mm, Sigma 35mm, Sigma85mm and Panasonic 100-300m. Since buying the Q3 43 in Dec the Sl has been gathering dust although it would cover wide @ 24mm and distance 100-300mm if required. I normally shoot landscape so something wide would be handy, possibly Q3 28, as for distance possibly one trip a year where I would need a long lens. Do I get rid of the SL2-s and lenses, buy a Q3 to cover wide angle and rely on the crop factor of the Q3 43 for distance?? Thoughts and advice appreciated. Tarekith Posted February 24 Share #58 Posted February 24 Since I got my Q3 43 I've keep my Tamron 28-200 on the A7CR I normally use. Best of both worlds, long and short, while still being sorta small for the range on offer.
