troyfreund Posted December 26, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey Folks, Looking for some opinions here. Have come across a finely priced Leitz 280mm/f2.8 APO TELYT "bargain"-priced lens. Wondering if any of you have this lens and what you think of it. Thanks for your time and consideration, Troy Freund

topoxforddoc Posted December 26, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2007 Troy, I had one of these until a 280/4 APO came along at a good price from one of our forum members. Nice lens, a bit softer than the 280/4, but very good nevertheless. I would have kept mine, except I just had too many lenses to keep my wife happy! glenerrolrd Posted December 26, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 26, 2007 Hey Folks,Looking for some opinions here. Have come across a finely priced Leitz 280mm/f2.8 APO TELYT "bargain"-priced lens. Wondering if any of you have this lens and what you think of it. Thanks for your time and consideration, Troy Freund I have had this lens since they introduced it . Have always found it to be a fine performer even wide open on both a Canon 5D and later a R9/DMR. When I purchased the Telyt Module system last year ...280/400/560/800 ..I ran a test against the 280 2.8 . Its not quite as good as the 280/2.8 modular but its very close. I don t think quality is the issue ..its weight...it handles nicely even without a monopod but its heavy. Whats a bargin price ..I need to put mine on the market as I can not use 2 280/2.8 s. troyfreund Posted December 26, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted December 26, 2007 I found the lens in "bargain" condition for $1800.---"Bargain" means the lens shows many signs of use, slight scuffs and such, but the glass is fine. Thanks for the input, guys! Troy
telyt Posted December 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted December 27, 2007 At this price it is indeed a bargain. I was fortunate to have used a loaner 280 f/2.8 for a few months while my 280 f/4 APO was in the hospital @ Solms. The edge performance isn't as good as the center (astigmatism) and the weight was an issue at times but quite a fine performer. At this price it's hard to go wrong. troyfreund Posted December 27, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted December 27, 2007 Thanks for the feedback, Doug; you always seem to have such a wealth of knowledge on all the long-glass. I think I'm gonna move two of my less-used lenses to help rationalize picking up this one. take care, Troy
jankap Posted February 28 Share #7 Posted February 28 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) https://apotelyt.com/camera-lens/leica-apo-telyt-r-280mm-28 Does your copy have a filter drawer at the back side for filters with the dimension series 5.5? That would be interesting for astro photos (of course, with a dark astrofilter mounted in front). The lens is heavy, so don't carry it with camera strap. Use its own strap.
