Leica M11-D: The camera without a display enters the next round

.... There's actually something weird with how C1 handles this internally, but that's too technical to get into here. Luckily they just released an update today that includes support for the M11-D and the new Q3 43 - it didn't automatically update all the photos I already had in my session unfortunately, but luckily it was just a test session so I made a new one and then it detected the correct camera model and everything worked as I'm used to again! I'm not sure about Adobe but I believe they are generally pretty up to date?

I've run a few M11-D experiments through C1 and the results looked OK to me.  I'll check to be sure that I am fully up to date before committing a larger batch.

There will be an EVF-M. Stefan Daniel said so. But why should there be an EVF-M only? There are enough people for a M, a D and the normal rangefinder M with display. The latter are the most I think.

Yes, Leica seems to be very good now at making niche iterations of the M line. Love my M11 and use it with its accessory EVF all the time, and sometimes focus with the optical finder than compose with the EVF. The Monochrom and M11-P variants seem cool, but I really don't see the point of the M11-D, which costs more, just to eliminate the quite useful rear screen, though at least it has contacts for the Visoflex 2 EVF. I don't see why Leica could not make an EVF only or hybrid optical/EVF like the some Fuji X series cameras have, but I would not get that one either. Will probably keep using the M11 for many years.

Thanks.  Got it!  It seems to produce a brighter version of one shot that I have worked on with the previous release. I don't have a lot else to compare with.

Interesting, as this seems to be consistent with my first impression with my M11-D and C1: the photos looked kind of darker than expected.

The C1 version is not the latest. But as the exposure is easy to adapt, I do not feel the need for an upgrade.

But it seems to be a very strange behavior. Why should there be any difference? 🤔

Perhaps the D's meter has a built-in bias toward underexposure to protect the highlights, the writes instructions for C1/LRC to boost the exposure by the same amount.

Ordered one from Leica USA last night. I was not expecting it to ship so quick. Got the email for shipping today for Saturday delivery by UPS. I had to put a change of delivery date for Tuesday because I am out of town until Monday.

Did anyone try to order the printed manual from Leica? You should be able to do this via:

https://order-instructions.leica-camera.com/M11-D

I get the message that my serial is not in the correct format. It might be that not all of the backend admin is ready to go, or the manual is not available yet in the language I would like.

Thanks.

They seem to have a good availability everywhere.

Great, enjoy. I am picking mine from a holiday in Europe in a few weeks' time, will claim some tax back at the airport 🙂
