Advertisement Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Leica launched the new LEICA VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 1:2.8 /70-200mm ASPH. & Leica Extender L 2x. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leicalook Posted September 11, 2024 Share #42 Posted September 11, 2024 He is too fast for me - I am from Germany, English is a foreign language for me. Did not get what is missing performance - the SL3 or the 70-200, and if Sigma is faster.

Did not get what is missing performance - the SL3 or the 70-200, and if Sigma is faster. It's the SL3 subject tracking for fast action that lags behind competing cameras (even though improved over SL2/SL2-S). The Leica and Sigma versions of the 70-200 should autofocus identically. SL3 AFc for slower moving subjects works just fine. 1

tom0511 Posted September 12, 2024 Share #46 Posted September 12, 2024 I have to say that even with the 90280, which is supposed not be slower than the Sigma, I could shoot athletics with runners running towards me, also wing foiling and surfing the surfer surfing towards me. I did play with the AFC parameters though. If the Sigma is faster, than it should work not bad on the SL3. Its not as reliable as my Canon R5/R3, but it has improved quite a bit from the Sl2 generation. I am interested to compare the Sigma to my 90280, maybe have a chance later this month.
tom0511 Posted September 25, 2024 Share #47 Posted September 25, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I now had a chance to compare the 90280, new Sigma and Pana70200/4.0 briefly in my garden (not action). First impression-at f4.0 all 4 lens are very good and sharp (I shot at 70/90/200) and even the color rendering looks quite close. At f2.8 from first look the Sigma even looks slightly sharper than the 90-280. Overall small focus differences make it difficult to compare 100%, but overall my findings are. Sigma seems to overall show very consistent performance, from first look it seems to be maybe as good or even better in regards of sharpness than the 90280. Focus seemed als very accurate overall. It also did hunt a bit less. The "old" Pana 70200/4.0 also shows quite nice image quality, even though the Sigma with f2.8 feels not really much bigger or heavier. Overall i have been impressed so far with the 70200/2.8, its quite a bit smaller and lighter than the 90280, offers f2.8 through the range, seems to focus really quick, and from first look it seems very sharp but not harsh. I did not see much difference in bokeh. Of course the lenses are also different focal length range. I have not tested action and c-af performance yet. I am so impressed that I decided to buy the Sigma, will probably sell the Pana 70200/4.0, but will keep the 90280. tom0511 Posted September 25, 2024 Share #48 Posted September 25, 2024 2 more things: no strange focus noise I can see how some prefer the feel and built of the Leica 70-200 version, its certainly more beautiful and probably even more solid). Personally I do think the Sigma feels pretty solid as well, and I do like the switches, the option to use f-stop ring, the rubberized front of the hood and the lighter weight (and price ) of the Sigma. I think the weight being a real big advantage for the Sigma.
tom0511 Posted September 25, 2024 Share #49 Posted September 25, 2024 (edited) one more comment...this is the thread of the Leica 70200, so I hope its still ok to also write about the Sigma, since I assume there are many optical similarities. jaapv Posted September 27, 2024 Share #50 Posted September 27, 2024 They are essentially the same, but the Sigma has its own thread, as it has far more functionality.

S Maclean Posted October 10, 2024 Share #52 Posted October 10, 2024 I got this today. Prertry good. No focusing noise btw, just to cover that one. focus on sl3 is fast and accurate for portraits and general use, have not tested fast moving. rendering is beautiful. So much so that I am considering getting a 24-70. I have the 24 - 90 but coming from the M system I’m torn. For people I think the “sigma” zooms are better, for photography the 24/90 and 90/280 are probably more reflective of artisanal optics. do I get both? That seems wasteful and lazy as I have the m lenses and the apo primes (35 and 75 on list for the 21) decisions, decisions

ejp Posted December 4, 2024 Share #59 Posted December 4, 2024 (edited) Hmm my bad, shot the pelican at 2.8 for some reason, so he is out of focus in some areas mainly body. This one is at f5 it certainly does look softer on here. Welcome, dear visitor! You can with the new RF 70-200mm F2.8 Z lens
