Also works with several non-Leica lenses like the 60-600, 150-600, Sigma 70-200 etc. Basically all the L mount teles work on all the other brands tele compatible lenses.

And vice versa… the sigma tele extender is half the price.

Curious, why does this only work with tele compatible lenses and not prime lenses?

Only with compatible lenses. In general tele extenders are meant to be used with long lenses.

Biggest reason lenses are limited is that the extender actually extends into the back of the lens.  Some lenses do not have enough depth before the rear element, so it will not physically fit.

It also works really well with the new Sigma 500mm f/5.6 L lens, which is spectacular.

My Sigma copy was lousy. Probably just a dodgy one but anyway.....

Worth noting that you will lose 1f value with the extender.  I use a Sigma 2x extender with my 100-400mm lens, love it on manual focus. Anything with auto-focus be prepared for hunting under less than ideal light and slower auto-focus performance even with great light.
