SJH Posted August 31, 2024 Share #1 Posted August 31, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having now used it for a number of shots and shoots now a few things spring to mind as bugs or challenges: 1. Not being able to double tap to centre the focus point like my Q3 and SL3. 2. Like others I wondered why I couldn't see any photo's in the Gallery or camera roll after downloading through the FOTOS app, even though they were showing as such i.e. downloaded after I'd selected them and watched them download. The issue here is that camera doesn't seem to actual sync the date and time from the iPhone (15 Pro Max) or iPad (11 Pro & latest IOS versions), which all my other Leica's do. So my shots were there but as they were dated January 2024 they were way back on the camera roll and Leica gallery view!! Transfer speed is nice and quick though. The FOTOS app is easily the best photos app out there right now, blazingly fast with the SL3 & Q3 not quite so fast with my M11's (the D-Lux 8 is quicker but way smaller files). Like the integration with Lightroom to on the go with an iPad. 3. There are only 3 user profiles, you can't name them or save them compared to all the other latest Leica camera's. 4. No stepped zoom - it would be ideal if the setup screen showed all the common focal lengths, say 24, 28, 35, 50, 75 that you could just select in the boxes and the zoom always starts at the first you've selected and then goes to each one in sequence. Overall though this is a fun and joyful camera to use and I do love it already, it fits well as a travel camera with my M11P and M11M for when I'm out, want to travel light, evening's (great little fill flash with no sync limitations - please do fo the Q3 and M11's!!) etc etc. I also find it great for just casual shooting around the house and my city. I've had the GR3 and X100V before for this role but I have to say that I'm preferring the D-Lux 8 to those for how well it fits my needs and my Leica gear.

PanHay Posted August 31, 2024 Share #2 Posted August 31, 2024 I can’t seem to liven up the’Miniature effect’ in scenes mode - not sure if it’s a bug or a set-up issue. Either way I don’t know what it does.

mhoutman Posted September 2, 2024 Share #5 Posted September 2, 2024 After 3 weeks use IMO it is a versatile camera with real Leica looks and feel. I want to add - excessive battery drain probably due to Bluetooth being always on - sometimes stalls as camera does not keep up with fast menu use but hey it is only FW 1.0 🤷🏻♂️
Le Chef Posted September 2, 2024 Share #6 Posted September 2, 2024 Why keep BT on if you don’t need it?
Max EPR Posted September 2, 2024 Share #7 Posted September 2, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The D Lux 8 is great overall......but.........it has really strong chromatic aberration and lens flare with high contrast back lighting. I am always interested in testing how far I can push my lenses for M11, SL2 and D Lux 8, especially for something I really dislike which is CA. My most challenging lens for CA is the Summilux M 28 1.4. But, the D-Lux 8 has much more CA and lens flare than any other lens I own when shooting high contrast photos. That said, I'm happy with the D-Lux 8 for all other shooting conditions. I just have to be mindful with the D Lux 8 with photos of metallic surfaces or high contrast between light and dark objects. Finally, I understand that comparing a $1600 camera to high end Leica camera and lenses is not "Apples to Apples".

flappo Posted April 13 Share #9 Posted April 13 I really regret buying this now , the fact you can't rename the user profiles is pathetic I'll stick to canon's and iphones in future , no more leica's for me
