As is also described in the Q3 43 manual (available to download from Leica's website), the clip-on lens cap is recommended to use with the ventilated hood.

Australian Leica site link:

I'm sure a third party clip-on lens cap to fit a 49mm end thread lens could be obtained for a lot less than the Leica embossed one that they sell.

Paul

Many thanks to both, much appreciated. Got an unbranded for 3 quid

I take it the lens cap supplied with the Q3 43 doesn't fit the ventilated hood? If not what lens cap do you use?

TIA

The 49mm Breakthrough lens cap works.

Looking for a bit of guidance here: new to USB charging. One unboxing video says as delivered the Q3 43 battery has no charge. So, camera switched off, do I just connect  the USB C input to, say, a Macbook Pro (itself powered from its mains charger). The user manual talks about finding charging in the menu but that's presumably for when things are up and running?

I think you can simply plug one end of the USB- C cable into the camera and the other into a power socket and leave it to charge. Unless I’m missing something, it’s nothing more complicated than that*. Expect to leave it for 2-3 hours.

*I’m also assuming that the default setting for USB charging in the menu is ‘On’……otherwise that would be a case of ‘Catch-22’?

It is also worth reminding folk that the Q batteries are the same size, voltage and shape as the SL batteries and an SL charger or batteries work with the Q. The ones I normally use with my Q are the later BP-SCL6, whereas my SL601 batteries are the earlier slightly lower capacity BP-SCL4.

For those of us who prefer the conventional mains charger, with its informative LEDs sadly the BP-SCL6 charger is out of stock at present with most dealers in the UK.

Yes, but it makes no sense for them to sell a camera which requires a battery to work, and include a battery where the only means you have of charging it is via USB. It must surely be set to ‘On’.
Just plug the USB cable into the camera and see if it starts to charge. If it doesn’t, get back to Leica and ask them how you’re supposed to get the camera to the point where you can use it.

Good to know, I never consider Sigma is capable of making a camera, or at least a camera I would ever buy.

I don't even look at their lenses.

Some Sigma lenses are excellent.

Some years ago there was a suggestion to move away from the complexity and cost of interchangeable lenses to just making and selling high quality lenses with an attached camera.

It seems that Leica is going down that path. Perhaps the next Q with be a Q3-90 for those who specialise in nature and portraits.

a Q 35-75 🙂

We all went on the same route.

I always tell myself it's the last Leica piece for the decades, now I have 3 M digital bodies, 2 film, 10-ish (not sure about exact number, I need to check my closet) M lenses, and this new Q3-43  😅

Last time I checked yes she is still with me.

One trick I do is trying to get cameras and lenses all in same color so she wouldn’t notice. But this Q3 is a bit tough for me to hide (that’s why I hate grey).

But I think she is smart so that she pretends she didn’t know. But I never asked 🤪

i currently have 37 Leica cameras and about 50 lenses in my collection (three generations with Leicas and over 60 years of collecting for me). I am still married to the same lady I married over 53 years ago. You just have to keep buying them nice things and the ever growing collection of Leicas never gets noticed.
