On the fence about this one when a Sony a7cr and the Sony 40/2.5 are same size, less money and interchangeable lenses, great autofocus.  Arguably, Leica's interface is superior but once learned the Sony is not rocket science.

Good on Leica for finally getting it, their Minilux with a 40mm lens was the best point and shot made.

The Contax T2 with a 38mm Zeiss lens was every bit as good as the Minilux, IMO. This brings me back to the days of debating Leica vs Contax film cameras. I also owned a Contax G2 with a slew of Zeiss G lenses that were outstanding. It is one of my all-time favorite cameras, only recently surpassed by the Q2 Monochrom.

I would love to know the business case for a Q40 or Q50. Where are the sales going to come from?”

”The cost of development would be unlikely to make commercial sense.”

”blah blah… cannibalization… blah blah”

”The Ghost of Christmas Past appeared to me in the form of Oskar Barnak and told me there will never be a Q with a longer lens”

That's unfortunate. They make some fantastic lenses.

This is true. Sigma lenses used to be garbage but this is absolutely no longer the case. I own the Sigma 50mm F2 DG DN for the SL system and it absolutely crushes the Leica non-APO equivalent for less than 1/3 of the price. Solid metal construction as well. A gem.

Good to know, I never consider Sigma is capable of making a camera, or at least a camera I would ever buy.

I don't even look at their lenses.

Sigma has great expertise in producing high quality lenses for many different mounts. The L mount system would be much poorer without Sigma.

I never shot either the T2 or the G but I did have a Contax TVS, a great camera.  Both companies had excellent products, and the Contax 645 continues to be relevant.  I wish they would have continued with camera and lens production.

I find that with the 43mm the closest focusing distance (non macro) of 0.6m is quite limiting, so I ve been switching between macro/non macro quite often for the past few hours.

The Q3 43 is enticing, but this is what held me back. I was surprised by the close focusing distance. Gives me the peace of mind to keep my M and the CF lenses I’ve picked up.

The magnifications are similar, per Jono Slack's review (0.25 vs 0.26).

thx. not that much more than I paid (including brass thumb grip + tax.) seems hardly worth the trouble.

He said he was selling it for what he paid, not looking to make a profit on it.  Although it still seems to be a few hundred more than what I paid.  Maybe shipping/tax where he lives is higher.

I ended up with an extra one as I was first on two lists.   I Figured I would take it and get the points on my credit card.  I’ll probably pass it along to one of my friends for exactly what I paid.

Some Fotos from the Leica store in Hamburg, where you can interact with Q3 43 and other cameras.

cheers Peter

I’ve been using the APO Summicron-SL lenses (21/35/50/75) on my SL cameras for years.  These images are very promising and I’m excited to start using this camera.
