A 43-50mm focal doesn't warm me up much. The difference with the 28mm is too little for me.

On the contrary, I would appreciate a lot a focal about 75-90mm, which would be perfect for portraits and, let's say, street photo too.

With a focal like this, together with the leaf shutter and all the other specific feature of a fixed lens camera, it would become the definitve portrait war machine: right focal and any flash sync speed. Nothing could beat it.

Of course, IMHO!

This sounds great.

I think Leica is right to make a whole line with the very successful Q series.
Though I prefer the M, I use with some pleasure my Q2 reporter, as sometimes, it is interesting to have a rather compact, all in one, ‘weatherproof’ camera to take with me.

I have a very fond memory of my Leica CM (summarit 2.4/40) and always liked the focal length. A 43mm Q could be either a nice complement to a wide angle Q.

My last Leica was the original Q but with 26mm (officially 28mm) not a focal length I like for a fixed lens camera. And why would I want a high resolution camera to through away most of the image (called cropping mode), I have an IPhone for that. Of course I am biased as my first camera I bought was the original CL with the 40/2.0.  I hope it will have excellent IQ over the entire image and not only in the center and also a more compact lens form factor  Then it would be a great supplement to my Hasselblad gear!

Where do I pre-order? It could replace my M11 for 90% of the pictures I take - I mostly use 50mm, but I wouldn't mind 43mm at all.

After the issues with my M11 in Japan, I took a Sony A7CR + 40mm f/2.5 to Germany as my travel camera, and I'm having a ton of fun with a small Q-sized camera. Switch the inexpensive Sony 40mm f/2.5 for the Leica APO 40mm f/2, add Leica color science, and you got a banger of a camera.

It's not an official announcement for a camera, so it's all speculation.  You can probably get on your Leica dealers list if they've started one - or ask them to start one if they haven't.  Many dealers will put you on a list for an unconfirmed camera without taking a deposit.

Interesting; within the span of this thread a speculation has turned into a rock-solid reality. Isn’t the Internet a miraculous place?

I would not give too much credit to rumors ( and there was a lot of discussions about a Q with longer focal length for years) but I visited recently a Leica Store and I was told I should look out for something in a couple weeks I would be interested in.

Sorry, too limiting for me, since selling of all of my pro gear when the Q originally came out, I've retrained myself to the 28 view of the things I see.  Funny, now everything is too limited when viewed through longer glass.  I think I'm good with the current glass.  Most people do seem to like the idea though.  Probably be a great seller, when/if available.

Considering your username, that's hopeful.

Another poster on another forum has also been told to BOLO for a new camera. He believes it will be the new M11-D.

It could also be the new SL3-S, Q3M, or maybe the Leica Unicorn which is a new model using the Q body and a new range of small Q mount AF lenses. Or is it an M with an EVF?

Maybe a moderator could institute a poll with all these options to see which one Leica should definitely introduce first…

Will it scratch film?

M11-D is the perfect M11 variant because you'll never know when it freezes 🤣

Because a pro who already has one of the SL bodies may not want to pick up another camera/lens combination when they have an interchangeable lens system.

That's additive. "You're very welcome!" says Leica.

Interesting reading.  I am happy with 28mm for what I shoot the most.  But all rumors aside, I should think Leica should sort out the remaining problems with the Q3 firmware to reach the maturity of the Q2 in performance.  When I sold my Q2 for a Q3 I did not expect to get a device with so many quirks that should not have happened considering the perfection of the Q2. Don't get me wrong.  I love the Q3 and what it can do that my Q2 could not.  My aching knees and back love the tilt screen.  I like the low light performance of the new sensor.  So, I would not go back, but I wish it turned on quicker, did not have the viewfinder delay or viewfinder blur at the high refresh rate and maybe a few other details.  Minor things but annoying if you already had the Q2.

Recently, I was shooting film with CL and 40mm lens. I like it. So, if Leica releases Monochrome Q<whatever-they-name-it> with around-35-to-40mm lens, I take it. No need more resolution, need best-state-of-the-act Full Frame monochrome sensor. 24 megapixels is more than enough.

I find the 28 mm lens very big on the Q. I would appreciate a f 2 or even f 2,8 version with smaller lens. A 40 mm would be great. Summarit 40 mm were great performers.

Another option would be an L mount Q with a set of small AF lenses. Would also work great with M lenses vi the adaptor.
