That seems to cover the most reasonable choices. There are more if you adapt: 35mm 2.5 Summarit S with the S adapter L, 35mm Canon lenses with an EF adapter, the 35mm TL lens with APS-C, and of course any zoom with 35mm in the range. That's what I can think of off the top of my head, but maybe there are more.

Hey guys

So am I right in assuming that these are the 35mm autofocus options for the SL line?

  1. SL Summicron 35mm APO f2
  2. SL Summicron 35mm f2
  3. Panasonic 35mm 1.8 (same as 2).
  4. Sigma 35mm art 1.4 DG DN
  5. Sigma 35mm art 1.2 DG DN
  6. Sigma I series 35mm f2

Anyone else?

Why do you ask? Are these too few or too many? Or do you want  a comparisan?

I use the Sigma 1.4 with very good results.

And there is a rumor about Meike

Yes but I was thinking about AF lenses this time ;) The TL one I guess qualifies though.

Those are all AF…that’s why I listed them! The S adapter has AF on Leica bodies and as far as I understood it, the EF adapters also provide AF.

Sorry, mate! My bad! So you can use autofocus when mounting Canon EF lenses on SL? Is it any good?

I found an adapter like you mentioned, mat.

Maybe a silly question; but can I use my Zeiss Distagon EF 35mm f2 with this adapter and get AF  on the SL2? I know there's no AF in the lens, but can it like use the AF from the sensor / camera?

It would be magical IF my manual Zeiss 35mm f2 for Canon could operate with AF on the SL2!!

No, I don't believe any AF adapters for EF move themselves, they just power the lens. So if the lens itself is AF, it will autofocus, but it will not add AF to a non-AF lens. I should say I have not used these adapters, so I cannot comment on the EF focus quality. I do have the S adapter L and it focuses as well as it did on the S, though it does the contrast detect back and forth. So it is more accurate than on the S cameras. I did not notice a difference in speed. That said, the S AF system is slower and louder than the L mount, so this is not really a recommended option unless you already have the S lenses.

The adapted that works for the SL is the Sigma MC-21, but AF is not fast with older lenses.

I don't recommend Vitrox or Fotodiox, you won't be happy with them.

if you are looking for a 35mm with AF.
Best optical Leica Summicron-SL APO 35

Best all around in the Sigma 35 f2.
Panasonic S lenses are a bit better in the 50-85 range, and Sigma is better in the low end with the wide-angle lenses.

If you want a fast aperture the Sigma 35 1.4 is a great lens, It is a bit slower focusing than the Leica 35 APO. The image quality is very good.

And the L system is quite good in terms of option but isn't it strange that Panasonic and Leica don't offer a 35mm 1.4?

I don't think that the 35/1.4 is a showcase lens, as it was in the film days. That being said, Sigma offers a 35/1.2, 1.4, and 2.0. The 1.2 is supposed to be especially good, albeit quite large. If I recall, Lens Rentals called it the best 35mm available in Sony mount, better than Sony's own "GM" offer.

I haven't tried any of these options, I'm not much of a 35mm shooter. I do have the S 35/2.5, and the S-SL adapter, but I've only used that combination on a few occasions when a composition required 35mm because I couldn't get back far enough to use a 50.
