Hello.

today I was shooting some sky scenes. I noticed that whenever my shutter speed went faster than 6000s or above, there is no shutter sound. I have my shutter settings set to hybrid. At first I thought the camera was not capturing images, but a quick playback showed the images. Is this normal?

Usually on hybrid setting the camera will shift to electronic shutter at 1/4000 which has no sound. There is a known issue with the electronic shutter not being able to exceed 1/8000 when using aperture priority and or Program mode. Any exposure thats over 1/8000 will be clipped because of this fault so shooting will need to shift to S mode to effect a correct exposure. So you have found the shutter is changing at 1/6000?

A mechanical shutter makes a sound, an electronic one is silent Clearly 1/6000th is when the ES kicks in. So completely normal. Some camera brands offer a fake click sound.

Yes, the maximum shutter speed with the mechanical shutter type is 1/8000.

The manual does not say at what shutter speed the hybrid shutter type switches to the electronic shutter. I would expect it to happen at the maximum possible mechanical shutter speed, but that is not the case.

Yes, My electric shutter engages at 1/4000 which is what I typed originally but then changed it to 8000 for some reason. So after checking, mine is - up to 1/4000 mechanical over 4000 electric

Perhaps using it repeatedly at maximum speed stresses the shutter assembly, so they engage the electric shutter a bit early in hybrid mode? It is an interesting occurrence.

And/or to avoid excessive shutter shock with long lenses perhaps.

In A mode, mine uses ES for 1/4000 sec. and above. Mechanical is only below 1/4000 sec.

Perhaps 1/4000 sec. itself can go either way depending on main shooting mode and other settings.
