Ca I ask if you found these ok? I should get some new batteries as two of my 7 are marked up as being for the M8 (original Leica and still working).

They're fine as spares, they seem to last ok but the battery life indicator stays at full until they no longer work then the screen gives the battey low warning. I always have 3 batteries per camera when I am out so it isn't a problem for me.

Thanks for pointing out the non-functional indicator! I hadn't noticed that on the one I got as I have just kept it as a spare, occasionally putting it in the camera to see if the indicator showed it self-draining over time, and it hasn't. But seeing your note I put it in the charger and although the camera shows full charge, the charger has yet to indicate 80% charge after some time. So you are right - the indicator doesn't function.

Thanks for the lead!

I placed a pre-order today, and Adam from Leica Miami promptly reached out to let me know there is no ETA. I’ll report back when I receive my batteries.

Got two of these shipped today from Leica Miami. It is less than two months.

Happy New Year!

If you are looking for the original battery, it can still be ordered from Leica Spare Parts. I paid 75€ including shipping.

Confirmed. Just ordered 2 pieces through my local Leica dealer, though the price was 120 Eur, i guess it depends on how big of a markup they put :D

Yes, I bought two for my M8.  Work fine.

I ordered two recently, they are not Duracell-branded actually. The brand is 2-Power not Duracell, I missed the fineprint on the Duracell page. The ones I received are rated 1,800mAh, not 1,600 mAh as stated on the webpage. The original Leica battery I got is 1,850mAh.

While the batteries work and charge fine in the original Leica charger i'll be returning them. I had the battery warning coming up right after charging to 100% (fixed by pressing the shutter button) and they drop the charge completely when around 30-40%. Not sure if this is the battery warning issue with my M9, but the warning does not come up with the original Leica battery. The original battery lasts 300-400 shots as described in the manual.

I've just finished  a shoot to empty on the 3 I bought recently, some in the field shooting at low temps and the rest in the house to finish them to empty. I did more screen activity than I normelly do just to add it into the mix.

2 of the 3 battreies died after 450 (2/7) shots when the indicators said between 25 & 50%, the 3rd ran on for a whopping 675 shots and died when the indicator read between just under the 10 mark.

I am just recharging them now but I have also ordered another 6 which after discount works out at £93.91 with free postage.

I've nothing to complain about there.

And how did they handle a next cycle?  (I have two ‘dead’ ones from 2012/2014; one gave 15, the other 50.)

The next cycle they all lasted over 400 shots 480/480/417. They all charged again fine with just a faint slice of red just before 100%. When I loaded them back into the cameras 2 were fine the third said battery low and showed just above empty on the screen, however, it shot about 100 shots in that condition then shot down but when I powered it back up it read the same as the other 2.

I was going to wait and see how the 3rd performed before reporting back but since you asked....

BTW the 6 more I ordered that showed in stock at point of ordering turned out were out of stock and a wait of about 3 weeks for them to "possibly" be back in stock so I cancelled the order.

And how about the battery charger blinking all the time? Maybe the whole issue of the battery is from the charger?

I got a 'new' so-called M8 battery clone  (one of those for €20). The charger blinks very fast, both leds at the same time. But at the end it stops (and hence is 100% loaded). 30 pictures and the residue is 80%.

Then I ordered a new from Leica store (which put me back €135). Charging commenced from the 75% out of factory box. The two leds blink intermittently, like on my other originals.

--> I remember:  I thought the charger would give a stable led if it reached 80%, and before that only one charging indication with a blinker.

  • Might an electrolytic in the charger be damaged (leak/low capacitance)??? I hobby around in electronics.
  • a new aftermarket charger costs only € 20 but that only has two pins and just charges - no connection to what is said to be a chip in the battery.

The question is, would that matter?

Only of there is some interaction other than charging (I remember that being said looong ago).

Anyway: I read how the charger should behave:

  • The green LED marked CHARGE (1.40) starts flashing to confirm that charging is in progress.
  • As soon as the battery has charged to at least 4 / 5 of its capacity, the yellow LED marked 80% (1.41) also lights up. [I remember continuous on.]
  • When the battery is fully charged, i.e. 100% capacity reached (after approx. 31 / 2 hours), the green LED changes from flashing to continuously lit.

My charger definitely does not look like that. Blinking 'all' the time. Until at last the green one stays on (stable state).

I have to correct myself: the charger is fine.

I just checked; the NEW M9 battery (from Nivo Schweitzer) charges OK, the red is now steady on, the green one blinks. [`My error: I looked at the €20/El Cheapo in the charger and that blinks forever.]

Here is how the new battery came. A big flat-pack.
