Hi all,

I have a SL2 and use the Leica S to L adapter with my Summarit-S lenses. It works quite well in all respects.

Looking at buying a Contax to S adapter and would like to stack that onto my S to L adapter, to use the Contax lenses on my SL2.

Leica Miami, says I cannot do that, it will not work? Why?

Is it a voltage problem or do I just lose autofocus ?

Anyone here had any experience with stacking the adapters?

Thanks,

Robert E

It will physically work, but the SL cameras don't have the software to control electronic Contax or Hasselblad H lenses. The other S adapters (Mamiya 645, Hasselblad V, Pentax 6x7) are purely mechanical, so they work the same as on an S camera (other than cropping of course).

Frame-it,

I did read through that thread, thanks.

Seems the excessive voltage may burn out the Contax lens, from what I could decipher?

Stacking Leica adapters is not new, I successfully used the Leica M to SL along with the Leica "X" to M adapter stacked.

But it seems voltage is an issue with the compatible third party lens to S mount.

Thanks for all the input.

I would agree here.  The S and SL system are different in terms of contacts.  Leica knows their own system and will make sure the voltage / current issues are properly mitigated.  Leica has never been one to warrant third party items working on all their systems with adapters - but say it has limited capabilities on the system the adapter is designed for.

Otherwise, many adapters would be stacked.  Non-electronic lenses or adapters are easily used because the mechanics takes over regardless of system.  There are tolerance issues with too many things in the chain as well.

While adapters are expensive, it is still typically less than buying a bunch of new lenses, but I trust the specs.
