Got minor freezes associated with the dust protection function under firmware 2.1.1. They seem to be fixed under firmware 2.1.2 so i plan to delete my tip 6 accordingly. Will do it in September if freezes don't come again until then.

We can also put the UHS-I versus UHS-II debate to bed for now.

So I'm fairly new to digital Leica so excuse my dumb question, if I update through the app, during the update, does it also "wipe" format the SD card while it's at it? If I were to download and drop the file to the SD and update that way, will that also "wipe" format the SD? I want to know because I want to go ahead with the update, but would like to keep the few shot I have on the SD for a little longer. Or I remove the SD before updating through the app, and afterwards put the SD back in?

I just updated via the app.  My earlier shots are still there.

I'm in - I had a freeze today! Odd one at that - pushed the shutter button - nothing. Pushed again - nothing. No lights to indicate anything wrong. Turned camera off - got the red light and I was frozen. Maybe the update will fix it - has only done that particular one twice.

May happen randomly. Half pressing the shutter release can suffice to awake the camera but popping out both battery and SD card can be necessary in worst cases. Firmware 2.1.2 does not fix the issue unfortunately. Disabling dust protection could avoid the problem under fw 2.1.1. I will test it again under fw 2.1.2 so i will refrain from deleting my tip 6 for now.

Same warning since fw 2.0.1 apparently. Strange that opimization for UHS-I takes that long, being an earlier technlogy.

Next you will want me to read the manual lol

I don’t recall being prompted to do this when updating via the Fotos app either. Given the use of the word recommended I take it with a grain of salt as something to do should issues arise. Kinda like rebooting your computer after a software install.

The bit  that fought my attention was the comment about UHS-1 cards. SO, another bone of contention ( again taken with a grain of salt)… why did Leica recommend a number of UHS-1 cards for the M11? Is there a current flavor of UHS-2 recommended ?

Well, you know what they say: RTFM!

But really, their instructions and notes are often not correct. Makes you wonder when they last time went through their own procedures ...
