Advertisement Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Hi HuntingSand, Take a look here Anyone still buying into/investing in the S system at this point?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
414concrete Posted August 17, 2024 Share #42 Posted August 17, 2024 I’m still growing my S system and I’ll pickup the 100mm when it falls to around $3k. When you give the S3 sensor light, nothing I’ve ever owned comes close to the IQ of this system. 1
da_eltsch Posted August 18, 2024 Share #43 Posted August 18, 2024 (edited) I am so amazed: as I don’t think of my camera equipment as an Investment that does gain value —> now is the (or better my) time to rebuild a S-System. Now that I have restarted with the S007 + 35mm and 70mm with pro charger and some additional stuff I have also caught a brand new Elpro Lens and a minty S adapter H. The according 180mm is on its way, same applies for two batteries (in hopefully okay-ish state). And compared to prices of excellent 24x36mm systems the gear is really reasonable priced (acknowledged that I am an equipment nerd) 🤓… What are my concerns: hopefully Leica is able to service the gear in the future (Focus engines). Besides that I am missing nothing. In these times of smartphone camera excellence. Daily snaps, some „sales“ pics for eBay etc. I am using it. For sports, (children) birthday parties it is mft now for me and also for the eventual family trip. It works fine for the occasional portrait when using nice glass, e.g. Pana Leica 42.5mm. I am getting rid of my 24x36 mm now: does not have much to offer ahead of mft. And price wise it is not cheaper (buying used) than the medium format alternatives. For the contemplative moments it is the Leica S to - hopefully- create some beauty and just enjoy the process of picture taking…. Sorting my thoughts while typing 🙃 Helge Edited August 18, 2024 by da_eltsch 1
dritz Posted August 23, 2024 Share #44 Posted August 23, 2024 Yes, you're right about using the S for contemplative moments. I'm together with my two brothers and significant others for our annual get together. I brought my SL2 with me and the 35 and 50. Being out and about -- the S would have been heavy and frustrating for me. I wish I had brought the 28-90 yet the SL is many times better than the S at capturing the spontaneous moments. For me, the S is best suited in a process of deliberate vision. It remains an aesthetic marvel.
rollsman4 Posted September 13, 2024 Share #45 Posted September 13, 2024 Is it safe to buy S lenses that the AF motor has NOT been replaced? Was there a cutoff date that Had the Newer AF motor in the lenses? I dont see too many S lenses that the AF motor has been replaced. Thank you
Sailronin Posted September 23, 2024 Share #46 Posted September 23, 2024 Personally I would wait to find a lens with a new motor or a late build lens. I've had the motors replaced on my 120 and 70 several years ago under warranty, my 35 is a later edition and (so far) no motor/autofocus issues after 5 years. YMMV

A very desirable lens it would seem... I agree with this, the 100 is a noctilux with AF. Clearly. The "standard" 70 CS, 45CS and 100 are my kit and stay my kit. I had my S 007 refurbished in 2023 and won't be letting it go anytime soon. I had a loaner S3 and would add one if I could at any point. Simply as an addition to my M11-P for pixel density and resolution for clients with the slight boost of kinda-sorta AF. I keep a SL2-S and have little interest in an S3 (although it's a great camera!) because I already have the sensor in my M11-P. The S is my "editorial" camera as it can render things extremely differently than any other Leica. It has the over all best IQ I have ever seen.
bilbrown Posted October 13, 2024 Share #48 Posted October 13, 2024 My lenses and 007 body were all made early 2017, I assume this means I have the new motors. I got it directly from the factory.

Coast to Coast Photo Posted December 15, 2024 Share #57 Posted December 15, 2024 I am still loving my S007 which I bought new at the end of 2016. It has a few issues such as creating highly overexposed images on occasion and not starting on others. I did get a cleaning brush and went over the battery contacts which helped somewhat. It’s still makes incredible pictures, and I would like to keep it for as long as possible. As for lenses, I have the 24, 45, 70CS, 100, and 120 tilt-shift. I had the 180 but sold it. I also have an SL2-S and an adaptor. I have 4 Hasselblad HC lenses including the 35, the 80, the 50-110, and the 300. The HC glass works beautifully on the S. I also have a Sigma fp and can use S glass on it via the adaptor, but there is no aperture control so it’s only wide open for the 24, 45, 70CS and 100. The 120 tilt-shift has aperture control on the lens and makes stunning images given its very large image circle. The S isn’t for every situation, but it is in a different league when you get it right. And how about daytime shots in the sun when wearing sunglasses? So, here’s my dilemma- some people are saying that Leica will refurbish the S without charge. Should I send it to Germany and hope they don’t want a fortune? Another issue is the 70CS AF motor stopped working even though it had a new motor. Have a great day and thanks for your thoughts

Maybe if you have a recent one that is exhibiting problems.

Tirpitz666 Posted December 17, 2024 Share #60 Posted December 17, 2024 If it has the substituted sensor, looks a good price to me, just snatched an S-E in very good conditions for a bit more.
