Basically bought the veru same stuff a few months ago (save from the 35 as I chose the 30) and I could be happier, I'm a CCD junkie to the point that afterwards I also bought an M9 with the fixed sensor as well 😀 I also have the 180 I can only highly recommend it, especially if you do female portraiture work, it has a somehow gentler rendering vs the 120 (which is anyway amazing by itself) and for me is my "poor's man" Cron 100, which is still too expensive for my pockets.. S180 is top! Can be a little hard to naul focus on S-bodies, but otherwise highly recommended. I use it quite a bit on SL3. Focus and image stabilisation highlight how optically splendid this lens is. 2

Also super hard to find it seems. I think it is because it was a 250 dollar HPRC case with a custom foam insert that they charged 900 dollars for. I know that is why I didn't buy it. I felt like Leica's pricing could be justified in some world for the lenses and bodies, but the absurd price they charged for S accessories that were made by other companies felt actually offensive to me. I think a replacement strap...the cheap neoprene one, was also 200 dollars or something. I actually wrote to the product manager about it at the time. But it was around this time that Leica went full bore into the luxury products market. 2
Slender Posted June 11 Share #223 Posted June 11 (edited) Thank you all for your warm welcome into the S club. I have been wanting into it for a good amount of time! I know a few of you started with those before moving on with the SL platform. For me its kind of different as the SL2 was/is my main workhorse since 2020. Its extremely capable and oh-so easier to use and convinient, but the S feels like my M does, more raw, more involving to use. The EVF is great for those sunny days outside and the camera doesnt get warm either..., no eye strain.... and the battery life is mindblowing coming from the SL2.... My Leica body count chronologicaly was: R7 - R8 - M4 - M9 (all sold to upgrade eventually) and now I have M10R - SL2 - S006. I must confess it's great to go back in time with the CCD look of my beloved M9, with more flexibility in post, and embracing the limitation of OVF only, ISO capped at 400/800 (but 1600 is useable with LR denoise when nicely exposed) althought should the S3 had been cheaper its the one I would have gone for I think, honestly, as the M10R sensor twin. @Stuart Richardson I got the Leica 16010 Case for 160£. Courtesy to the chap (or lass) who did shell 600£ for it before me.... 🤪 Edited June 11 by Slender
davidmknoble Posted June 12 Share #224 Posted June 12 @Slender Excited for you! My main work is done with the S system and occasionally the SL with R glass. I actually took an R9 with me to Antarctica a year ago to supplement my digital work. It’s nice to see some R users around! I like the Leica S case as well, but because it let me stack more on and around it when transporting the system. It was overpriced then, but I’m getting good mileage out of it, so in the end it will be ok. enjoy! David.
Slender Posted June 12 Share #225 Posted June 12 Thank you @davidmknoble. Your work and other's also played a part in my resolve to go (almost) all in for it. I am waiting for the diagnostic from Wetzlar now to see if I can save the 1st S006 or get a refund and move on to another unit. The R8/9 and R lenses were/are so amazing. da_eltsch Posted June 13 Share #227 Posted June 13 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) If you can pickup and check, it sounds like a great deal for me, even with the one "bruise" due to bump or collision. I would definitely check for AF-accuracy due to that "shock" that must have happened. Edited June 13 by da_eltsch
Tirpitz666 Posted June 13 Share #228 Posted June 13 Unless you can actually go there physically as written, I would be pretty weary on it honestly, in my experience, eBay KE is one of the worst sites in terms of scams, also because it's quite frequent that accounts get hacked and fake ads are posted with "too good to be true" accompanying prices. And usually PP F&F only is a huge red flag, at least for what my experience buying out of it is. I'm not even sure that a bank transfer would allow you to recover that easily your money if it's a scam. My advice if you cannot fetch the camera in person, insist for payment with PP with Buyer's Protection, also offering to cover related costs, that's usually the best way to be sure that the seller is legit (he will most likely argue that that way he risks himself to be scammed, but usually that's something that legit sellers don't do). I may look a bit paranoid, but I've bought many times on KE, some very good deals can be found there, but a lot of attention is required, I've had many "close calls" there and in a couple of instances I only got my money back thanks to the PP Buyer's Protecion.
da_eltsch Posted June 13 Share #229 Posted June 13 You are not paranoid, a little bit of caution is necessary. I have been buying and selling at "Kleinanzeigen" reliably, but as you say: I am using their "safe buying process" and take the costs. Typically the wrong guys step out even if they offer it first hand. But back to the topic: I am still strongly "invested" in the S-System. I have just had a Super-Elmar-S 24mm on my table, from a great dealer. As it might happen: the AF just didn't work on my S3 (simply the "I am broken sound", I have had with other lenses). It is now out for repair at Leica: either I have a minty S24mm soon or my money back 😉 Also switching some of my lenses to CS (selling those without / buying new ones with CS) to work with flashes on faster synchronization.
padam Posted June 15 Share #230 Posted June 15 Well, I guess someone lurking here might be getting it. I was interested (tried one a few years ago, liked it), just didn't feel right not owning any lens at this point.
GMB Posted June 16 Share #231 Posted June 16 If anyone is interested, I decided to sell my S007. I had sent it to Leica last year in June for a repair. They did a full check and repaired everything for free. (Customer service for the S line is extraordinary!) As I received it only one week before leaving again for South America, I did not have time to sell it and it stayed in the safe at home (I took a S3 and an S006 as backup). It comes with 2 batteries. Can be seen in Brussels until August.
da_eltsch Posted August 3 Share #232 Posted August 3 I have just had my S007 and the Summarit S 70mm for service at Leica. The S 007 had some of the damping getting smoothy / creamy: body serviced looks like new. S 70mm reviewed and serviced: everything fine. The gear stayed for about 5 weeks in Wetzlar for those of you interested. For me there are good reasons to still invest in the system: a S 24mm is on its way back to me. I bought a couple weeks from a reputable dealer for an absolutely fair price. Turned out to have a broken AF assembly. They have send it in to the service and now it is like new with a complete service. (Three weeks!) Another vote from me: Leica Service for S Line is still extraordinary!!!
Stef63 Posted August 3 Share #233 Posted August 3 I have two s-lenses (45 and 24) for AF motor repair sitting in Wetzlar since June 5. Upon inquiry last week Leica tells me they are currently working on mid-May lens repairs. My experience seems rather inconsistent with @da_eltsch story. I sent in a lens in May, got and approved an estimate in early June, hoping it would be done by October or November. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. Michael P mdavidp125@gmail.com I got into the S system in late 2024 and have spent the past 9–10 months doing a lot of research on bodies and lenses. During that time, I was lucky to pick up a 24mm, 120mm, and 180mm—among others—but those have pretty much disappeared from the used market since. Some lenses were much harder to get; it took me four months of searching just to find a 100mm, and I only recently managed to acquire a 45mm. It’s also funny to note that these days, there seem to be more S hand grips for sale than actual camera bodies. Back in late 2024, there was decent availability of both bodies and lenses. Lens prices typically ranged from €2,500 to €4,500. S3 bodies were going for over €10k, 007s for around €5–6k, and 006s for just a bit less. But you could find them. That changed significantly. You can still come across some 007s and the occasional S3, but CCD based bodies have pretty much disappeared—except for the odd listing on eBay for a 006 for parts, or one with a so called “new” sensor that was likely swapped before Leica had a proper fix for the corrosion issue. I know them all ! As for lenses, the only ones I still see regularly are the 30mm, 35mm, and 70mm—and prices on those have dropped nearly in half over the last 9 months. Every now and then, someone still lists a 30–90mm for €7k or an S3 for €20k - ignoring reality - but those listings sit there forever. All this is based on nearly daily checks of eBay, MPB, Leica Classic, and a few other sites that occasionally have S system gear. So, if you’re after a corrosion-free 006 or S-E—good luck. Google might be your friend, but patience even more. Edited August 4 by Stef63
Pieter12 Posted August 4 Share #239 Posted August 4 A quick search comes up with a couple of 006s on eBay and one at Samy's Camera in Los Angeles.

Oh yeah, but if you look closer, these probably aren’t the ones you’d actually bet on. I did not check Samy’s Camera as that site seems to be down (at least for me right now). I didn’t know them, so I will put them on my list to check regularly. Thx.
