really? if it takes more than 5-6 secs its a normal format, a quick format is almost instant.

 

i don't think its a good idea to "low level format" a card or flash drive or SSD..

it should be a normal format NOT a quick format and ideally NOT a low level format.

 

Normal format:

All sectors in a volume get written to with new data, as all sectors get written to, including previously undiscovered bad ones, these will get marked bad and will be remapped to spare sectors.

Quick format:

The volume simply gets marked empty.

 

i think its best to format the sd in the camera you use it in.

I use this tool "SD Card Formatter" and it takes almost an hour for 256 GB. Don't think that the CPU in a camera can do that in 5-6 seconds. So it is 100% a quick format and after the Camera create a folder DIM and the folder for the files analogous to the setting that was previously made on the camera.

i meant MORE than 5-6 secs IN CAMERA = a normal format, a quick format is almost instant.

after formatting a card in camera, check for hidden files and see if all the data is hidden there? if its there, its a "quick format", if NOT then its a "normal format".

 

an hour for 256 gb is probably a low level format, anyway what ever works for you

replacing all the sectors is not a good idea for certain kinds of memory.
