Hello

I use the Leica S3 and desperately need some working tether cables and can’t seem to get them for love nor money. I have some jobs coming up in the coming weeks, and my two cables have now packed in!

I bought three from Leica Classic Austria and they seem to be for the S2. I have called Leica and they don’t have any.

Can anyone sell me one or suggest where I might be able to get one?

I am also looking for:

40mm CS lense (can’t find anywhere used)

70mm CS

Dual ‘Professional’ Charger

S3 Body

It’s such a shame that they have discontinued this camera. It’s the best DSLR style medium format around, they should re-release it and make it more competitive with the price of the Fuji. There is 100% a gap in the market for a DSLR style medium format, in my industry (fashion) lots of people would love this camera. It’s just it was way overpriced and released at the wrong time.

Thank you

Thank you! I’ve been researching, and I think it might be possible to buy a Female 9 Pin Lemo Cable with a USB.

Has anyone had experience of this?

In an ideal world I would have it to USB C.

Does anyone know if the Leica Cable has anything specific on the inside, or is it just the connectors that are important?

I am trying to build my own by connection 9-pin Lemo and USB-C, but there are two problems to clear:

1: is there a chip in the connection

2: where to find the pin to pin table.

Currently I am using iPad and Leica foto as a way of wireless tethering.

I bought a Lemo cable for my 007 18 months ago. The cable had changed from a product item to a spare part. The spare part number is

462-051.001-000 - Leica S3 USB Cable

Suggest you ask Leica to see if still available.

@Einst_SteinThats interesting, how can we find these things out?

I just called Lemo in the UK, and they say they only supply the connectors so can't help out.

Leica US in New Jersey told me it’s discontinued.

I guess the alternatives is wireless tethering through Leica Foto, but then it is better to have the wired power supply that has a fake battery to the camera.

I think you mean the 45mm CS.  Used they seem to be priced between $2.5k (rarely) to $4k.  There are a few on ebay.

Are you familiar with fredmiranda.com?  Lots of used stuff there.  There is a 70mm CS at a great price.

From what I've read,  the  Dual ‘Professional’ Chargers are prone to fail but some seem to still be working.

As I'm sure you know, a used S3 is still priced above a new SL3.  Lots for sale though.  (KEH $8k) Maybe a SL3 with an Leica S-Adapter L as a backup.  Would solve the sync cable issue as well.

It was not clear from your original post but do you have sync cables that went bad?  If so I would think they can be repaired. I thought I read somewhere that Leica Miami made a few custom cables but I couldn't find the post.  If not, maybe these guys could help you out: https://www.customcameracables.com/

No affiliations with any of the above.  Just too much time on my hands ;)

I have had one DOA from new, and two die since then.  Both my cameras have the multigrips so it was useful to charge two batteries at once, don't think I will be looking for another....

@tommycj if John wasn't clear, the cables that work with the S007 work with the S3.  It is a lemo connector, but unless anyone knows, I don't know which wires are crossed over when going to a USB.

I can tell you the dual charges are all but impossible to find.  I have 2, one I got from someone I knew used the S system and was unloading.  THey work great, but I've ordered others from reputable places that don't work.

Normally I have seen CS lensees for sale at Leica Classic (and they ship everywhere), but I don't see any at the moment.  They also have USB / lemo cables, but it looks like S006 cables which I think do NOT work in the S007.

I purchased a few about 6 months ago when the market flooded and it looks like those things are now getting harder to get...

I just ordered the 16040 USB 3.0 cable (for Leica S 007 and S3) from Leica Store Manchester.

About the dual charger, I suspect it's for S 006, not suitable for S 007 and S3? the batteries are different (S 006: 16014? S007: 16039?).
Even the AC adapters are different too, S 006:16022, S 007: 16041.

I use the dual battery charger for both the 006 and S3 batteries. Never had an issue.

S006 battery is 7.4v while s007/s3 is 7.3v. I assume dual charger was originally for s006, so it would try to charge to 7.4 v unless you stop it at 80% or so.

if you use dual charger for s006 charger on s007 battery without disconnect it to avoid 100%, you might burn the charger.

For similar reason, I suspect using s006 battery on s007 or S3, it might burn the camera.
On the other hand, if you use s007 battery on s006, it might cause exposure or color difference. Many not be as bad as error, but some difference.
