Hi all,

I'm looking for a Q3 28mm sized lens with AF to attach to my SL3.

Same or better IQ, 28mm for a little wider.

Any suggestions?

Possibly too lagre: LUMIX S 24mm F1.8. A tiny 24mm, that I have just got (so too early with conclusions from my side) is the Sigma 24mm f3.5 DG DN. A closer akternative is likely Sigma f2 DG DN. But ideally, ootially spesking, it would be SL28APO…

Size wise, it’s hard to beat the new but optically terrible Panasonic 26mm f/8 fixed aperture pancake: https://shop.panasonic.com/products/s-series-26mm-f8-full-frame-lens

If you want good quality and you’re happy shooting at f/5.6-f/8, the Sigma 24/3.5 DG DN is hard to beat. I’ve shot it with high resolution mode on the SL3 and it holds its sharpness to the corners when stopped down. So it’ll be more than capable to resolve details on the SL3 sensor.

I am new to the SL system. I bought the SL3 to supplement my S system for landscape and travel (mostly for situations where I need IBIS or something less heavy). I will also “replace” my M10-R during my current travel in South America as I prefer something weather sealed.

I have the SL-S and SL-M adapters and plan on using my S and M lenses occasionally. My only SL lens is the 24-90 (found a used copy at an excellent price). I would like to get something wider. The 21 APO is of course ideal, but also very expensive. The alternative would be one of the zooms. But what about Sigma or Panasonic options.

I do have the Voigtländer 15 mm for the M. Works great on the M10-R but is very wide.

Thanks. Georg

Hello, I have also treated myself to the Leica 24-90 with my SL3 (I am also new to the SL system). After all, I easily do 70% of my work with the lens. Nevertheless, I also needed a bit more wide angle for the next 20% and that's when I came to the Sigma 14-24 Art. It's similar in lens construction to the Leica, weighs 60g less and costs €1000 less, but is the best wide-angle zoom I've ever had (and I've had many).
For those of us doing the math, the missing 10 % comes from the Sigma 2.8 70-200 Sport. There are also rumors about Leica. Let's see.

In my comparison with the Q2, I found that the Sigma 24mm 3.5 was of comparable optical quality with the lens in the Q2, which is one of the reasons I sold the Q. It was better in the corners but slightly softer in the center. This makes sense based on the extensive optical corrections in the Q lens. The Sigma does not have the same degree of distortion that it needs corrected (though it has some). The biggest knock on this lens is the slow wide aperture and the vignetting, but both are a decent trade off for a very compact and light lens for a very low price that has great performance. It is only slightly wider than the Q lens, which is closer to a 26mm or so in terms of expected field of view.

Must a lens in the order of 24-28 necessarily be an AF lens? There is so much choice in M mount lenses, for instance the miniscule Color-Skopar 21 lenses, the 28 Ultron 2.0, or the 28 Nokton 1.5, rather similar to the Summilux Q. Used of course the Elmarit M 28, one of the best lenses Leica ever built, etc.

Effectively not possible at the same size unless you go for a much slower lens... The Q lens is mated to the camera and far closer to the sensor than any ILC lens can ever be, with significant software correction too. So you cant really get what you are asking for. But you can get close.

The 20mm F2 and 24mm F2 Sigma DG DN Contemporary lenses are 9/10 image quality, at least as good at the Q lens and are dirt cheap used

I have the 20mm, just shot lots of Astro with it recently and it is absolutely stellar. Even wide open.

Here is one image, please bear in mind that its show at F2 wide open and at 3200 ISO in the dead of night, and then been put through AI Noise reduction, and, edited in a 'soft' way, so the detail is suppressed somewhat - also the crop is beyond 100%, somehow.
