Advertisement Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Hi aspherical, Take a look here Manual focus option disappears from menu when I mount Panasonic 50 f 1.8 lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Babylonia Posted July 7, 2024 Share #2 Posted July 7, 2024 There is a "focus" option button, at the right of the viewfinder of a Panasonic camera ( S1 - S1R - S5 - S5 II ) S - C - MF MF is manual focus Welcome, dear visitor! helged Posted July 7, 2024 Share #3 Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) …and if you are on a Leica SL-body, you can move the focus to the back-button/joystick: LEICA SL2 Back-Button Focus | How to get it WORKING" width="200" data-embed-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/XsR0PCpMJdo?feature=oembed"> Edited July 7, 2024 by helged
helged Posted July 7, 2024 Share #4 Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) …or, the focus ring can be pushed towards the body, turning the lens into a MF lens (at least on Lumix S Pro 50mm f1.4). Edited July 7, 2024 by helged
jaapv Posted July 7, 2024 Share #5 Posted July 7, 2024 Or use the switch on the lens.

Yes the other option by this lens switch itself, to "override" the camera switch "AF setting" (S or C) of a "Panasonic" camera. I have no experience in using a Leica SL2 camera. (Didn't expect that a "Leica" user should buy an entry level "Panasonic lens"). Welcome, dear visitor! But would expect to do the same when using the switch on the lens itself when mounting the lens on a Leica SL2 camera? If not, I wonder if the lens is making good electronic contact to the Leica SL2 body? At least I should expect that official L-mount alliance branded lenses and camera's can be mixed between themselves for usage. Shawn30 Posted July 7, 2024 Share #9 Posted July 7, 2024 When I got the SL3 I had the same problem on a sigma lens. The AF/MF on the lens was the culprit. I don’t think my SL2 cared what buttons were selected on my Sigma and Panasonic lenses. I just picked up the same 50mm f1.8 and it’s functioning fine. Bikie John Posted July 8, 2024 Share #10 Posted July 8, 2024 I think it is a general thing - if the lens has an AF/MF switch on it, the option is disabled in the camera. I am not sure whether this is because it wouldn't work anyway. I noticed it with some Sigma lenses that have a switch - whereas Leica lenses (the ones I have seen anyway) do not have a switch so you have to do it from the body. It is a bit of a pain because it means you have to set tings up a bit differently if you have a mix of lenses. John
Sandokan Posted July 9, 2024 Share #11 Posted July 9, 2024 Same here. The lens switch on the lens means the body menu settings cannot be set to MF

Lumix S Pro 50mm Lux has a special AF/MF ‘switch’, that I like: When the focus ring is in the frontal position, the lens is in AF-mode. If you push the focus ring slightly backward, you have a MF lens (with distance markings on the barrel). Since the left hand typically holds the lens near the front, it takes ‘no’ time to switch from AF to MF. I don’t know the robustness of such a sliding focus ring, but smart it is. aspherical Posted July 9, 2024 Author Share #14 Posted July 9, 2024 Thanks for all the informed info. Guess I'll have to live with it (or buy another Leica lens when I get $$$$).
hoolyproductions Posted July 10, 2024 Share #15 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) With the lenses that have an af/mf switch (rather than a clutch) you don’t have to live with it. Set the lens to MF and now you can select MF on the SL2 (and use back button focus). Set it to AF and you can now select Af-s and Af-c. *at least it works this way with the Sigma MF switch lenses, let me know if not the case with Panasonic Edited July 10, 2024 by hoolyproductions
