The camera overheated and shut down until it cooled off. Solved by better heat management.

lct Posted July 5, 2024 Author Share #22 Posted July 5, 2024 The last M240 bug fix for freeze came with FW 2.0.3.0 if i'm not wrong. Was in April 2016, 3.5 years after the launch, so all hope is not lost for the M11 😉

Sharpies are not inadvisable for pen coding uncoded lenses or adapters but the ones i used were not black enough to avoid false code readings and could cause freezes to the M11. Using a sharpie first to mark the coding pits is perfectly possible though but it is recommended to recover them by black paint of black ink anyway. • About tip 7, camera becoming unresponsive and rear screen going black have been reported under firmware 2.1.1 in case of shots in quick succession. Happened to me once too so i updated my user profiles and since then i got no more issues. • About tip 4, Leica has found a fix apparently but i keep it in my list given that some LUF members are keeping an old firmware. • The tips are purely empirical as usual since 2002 so don’t feel compelled to follow them. All advices are welcome for improving the list if needed. 1. Switching camera off before mounting or removing a coded lens or adapter. 2. Switching camera off before mounting or removing the Visoflex 2. 3. Formatting memory cards with SD Card Formatter before inserting them in the camera. 4. Refraining from selecting lens detection auto for uncoded lenses. 5. Setting auto review to shutter button pressed. 6. Setting dust protection to off when using uncoded lenses. 7. Updating user profiles after 2.1.1 firmware update. 8. Using black paint or black ink for pen coding uncoded lenses or adapters. This becomes a ritual or worse a cult now. I also hit my head to a specific door frame everyday 6:53am three times with 12 seconds apart, then my stocks will go up that day. 100%, result guaranteed. So are your points 1-8 to guarantee a non-freeze m11. Good job! Edited July 6, 2024 by Rollei35

All my other Ms were fine but people complained about all sorts of things over the years for every model released and I had none of those issues. Not sure if this helps anyone, but I use these for 6-bit coding and they work great. Will also come off with isopropyl alcohol swabbing if you want to remove the 6-bit markings from the lens flange. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013VL6G4S

I often code my Voigtlander lenses as Leica, along with my older M lenses. The pen is the Sharpie brand, but it's paint, not ink.
