I got a call from the Leica Store Frankfurt this afternoon, well in fact I had a missed call from the store and when I called them back I just managed to reserve the last camera from this shipment. I picked the camera up directly from the store a few hours ago, it is still charging.

I've asked them to include me in the waiting list last weekend. Just on time for the holidays, I'm leaving tomorrow 🙂

Some days before launching the D-Lux 8 I asked the retailer in Constance. He put me on a list and a few days later he called me back and asked me if I am still interested. So I have been a lucky guy with a D-Lux 8 since the 8th of July. It has been my first Leica and I am very happy with it.

Let us know when you get a shipping notification, will you? Looks like it might take a few days.

I never got a notification from Leica, but UPS sent me one for a package coming from “LC” that required a signature.

The camera arrived today and I’m stoked.

I had still notification running from Leica Germany to announce when availible.

Yesterday I got an email from Leica Germany that camera is availible.

Just register for notication and wait. I had to wait short time to place the order and receive the camera 3 days after ordering.

Coming from another compact, I'm quite impressed with how light and fast it is.

Picked up from Red Dot Cameras in London today (lovely shop, highly recommended), little more than a week after I placed a deposit and was informed it should with luck be with me by the end of the month.  Got the grip too.  Just waiting impatiently for the battery to charge.....

Definitely check your local or non-local camera shops which deal Leica official products. Big camera shops such as B&H or Adorama have too many eyes on them, I managed to snag mine at a small NY camera shop and have it in hand the next day. Timing is really everything.

Funny, LeicaUSA emailed “Order Status Changed” to “Camera Shipped!” the day after it arrived. UPS did show proper shipping tracking throughout. Perhaps the Crowdstrike fiasco impacted their system.

Looks like European shops gets served at much larger numbers than U.S. Leica stores. Still waiting for mine which I preordered from two different dealers in the U.S. the day it was announced. 🤨

Camera makers can’t have it both ways, complain that nobody buys cameras anymore because everyone uses cell phones, and at the same time not producing enough cameras and letting everyone wait for long times (Fuji 100VI, Ricoh GRIII, Leica Q3, D-Lux 8 … the list goes on & on)!

I see no issue: I have been told by my dealer “a couple of weeks” and they’re usually accurate. Smaller dealers with which you build a relationship are usually significantly better in taking care of their customers than the megastores, for whom you are just a number.

I ordered mine through the German Leica Online Store on July 22 and Leica delivered by July 25th.
Each batch sell's out rather quickly (like +/- 2 hours or so).

The camera itself is really well build, the Leica UI identical to the current lineup (except to the SL3).

Crazy as I can not find one in the USA…. Anyone have insight or tips on how best to get my hands on a Dlux8?

Get on a waiting list of a Leica dealer and keep checking Leica's website.

Thanks

I’m on about 1/2 dozen and checking in.  I suppose it’s the best that can be done.

I got mine from Leica's site a month ago. I guess I got lucky.

I was out with my Q3 and the D-Lux 8. I took the DL8 with me for a little bit more reach. But the cropping capabilities of the Q3 are massive - so the heavy crop of the Q3 gave me nearly the same results as little bit cropped DL8 images... Of course not taking into account the size and weight and other features of the cameras.

My thought exactly, regarding my Q2.

So I hesitate about buying the D Lux 8. I don't like motorised zoom lenses.
