liemjerry Posted June 13, 2024 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Healthy greetings everyone. I need information on what the function of the square hole near the lens mount at the bottom of the Leica M8 is. - Is there a square hole in the M8 from the Leica manufacturer or not? (photo is in the attachment) - Is the box hole a modification or is it fabricated like that? (photo is in the attachment) - For the black Leica M8, has the Leica manufacturer ever issued a skin with a snakeskin pattern like my attached photos? Thank You. Welcome, dear visitor! jdlaing Posted June 13, 2024 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2024 (edited) The square hole is supposed to be there. It’s a very poor re-skin job. i have never seen Leica use a snakeskin body covering. Only aftermarket. Edited June 13, 2024 by jdlaing

Do you know the function of that square hole? so this hole is fully fabricated by Leica and not modified by user, isn;t it?

farnz Posted June 13, 2024 Share #5 Posted June 13, 2024 I agree with what JD has said - my M8 looks the same as his in his photo and it looks like that bit has been removed from the M8 in your picture. Leica offered a commercial upgrade program for the M8 that could also include replacement of the 'sharkskin' covering with a leather covering but it didn't look like the snakeskin on yours. Pete. I'm afraid I can't. My M8 works as it should with the hole covered. The only thing that 'might' cause a problem is if the hole has bright sides that might reflect light around the sensor box and cause flare but I'm clutching at straws. Graham (G4FUJ) Posted June 14, 2024 Share #8 Posted June 14, 2024 I appreciate you may not have a dealer nearby, but surely that would be your best route to gaining an answer to our question?
jaapv Posted June 15, 2024 Share #9 Posted June 15, 2024 I looked through This thread but I cannot find the function. It looks like someone tried to glue it back.
3D-Kraft.com Posted June 15, 2024 Share #10 Posted June 15, 2024 Something seems to be missing, covering the hole. This is how it looks from another perspective: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Perhaps some kind of hole to service components / access to screws or whatever. You could ask Leica spare parts support, if they can provide that part. If the hole is not covered, I would expect only very little influence on photos and only in rare situations - but who knows...
