They obviously offer less than selling privately with eBay but with no risk and with immediate payment. A couple of times they've actually given me more than their initial quote. I haven't bought from them, and looking at their prices they're not the cheapest, but I would feel confident in their quality of service. This mirrors my experience too. Advertisement Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Hi JNK100, Take a look here Anyone have used this website MPB?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Henners Posted June 14, 2024 Share #22 Posted June 14, 2024 (edited) I bought a Summilux off them, it wasn't completely as described and required me to strip the lens down to fix it. Not ideal. I also attempted to sell something through them and the amount they offered was insulting (I took in to account their overheads etc, running a business isn't cheap). I'm cautious on them but many have good experiences so I may have just got unlucky. Edited June 14, 2024 by Henners

Keep in mind that it is also a dumping ground for all things defect, decentered, water damaged, hazed, fungused and dropped. Buying from them is a lottery. But they do have a solid return policy. My one and only experience with them is in line with this. Bought a 28 lux. Focus was way off. sent it to Leica, and was told the lens had already come in for repair but the owner elected not to pay to fix damage from the lens being dropped. it was hassle free to return it, thankfully. But I wouldn’t buy again.

Prices 5.1 All prices stated on our Platform are fixed prices in Euro. The prices include any applicable VAT. 5.3 The total price stated in the order overview and in the order confirmation includes all costs invoiced to you, including all taxes and shipping costs. It does not include any applicable customs duties if you live outside the EU. The Company terms state clearly that all cost include any applicable VAT for those living within EU. Items are shipped from Berlin HQ for the EU site I linked above. It would also be a disaster for returned goods going through export process back to UK. No EU company would want to deal with this issue. That's why they have the UK site https://www.mpb.com/en-uk The pop-up prompt also asks you very obviously for this reason, see attached photo: Welcome, dear visitor! Antonio Russell Posted June 16, 2024 Share #29 Posted June 16, 2024 (edited) Edit: Here we go, from the MPB website. https://intercom.help/mpbcom/en/articles/6081136-buying-from-mpb-as-a-vat-registered-business "For items sold under the VAT margin scheme there is no applicable VAT to be claimed back, and no VAT amount will be itemised on your invoice. " When I enquired about whether I would be charged VAT on import to EU I was told that import taxes were my responsibility... When pushed they acknowlleged I would like by charged VAT on importas the VAT margin scheme is UK only. More on the VAT margin scheme here: https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/vat/2916cf71-128a-ee11-a81c-6045bd0e4841 They also treat VAT differently when selling to MPB as a VAT registered business elswhere in the EU. https://intercom.help/mpbcom-eu/en/articles/6081229-selling-to-mpb-as-a-vat-registered-business-elsewhere-in-the-eu Edited June 16, 2024 by Antonio Russell
Antonio Russell Posted June 16, 2024 Share #30 Posted June 16, 2024 (edited) 1 hour ago, Al Brown said: What you are quoting here is something completely different. It has to do with German Differenzbesteuerung and EU VAT claims within the European Union for B2B and B2C sales. You are confusing different things that have nothing to do with each other. As pasted above in the MPB email answer I attached, NO UK BASED ITEMS that would require additional VAT payments can be found on the European MPB site. There surely are import taxes and/or VAT to pay if you are ordering from UK to EU or vice versa, but you cannot order an UK based item on the EU site period. Go ask them if still in doubt. All I am doing is recounting my experience of purchasing from them... which involved an item on their EU website that was located in the UK not sure why you are taking this to be a personal affront or why you are so triggered by it. You say I am 'wrong' but how can I be wrong if its what happened to me? Edited June 16, 2024 by Antonio Russell
jaapv Posted June 16, 2024 Share #31 Posted June 16, 2024 Actually there is no problem at all ordering items from the EU to the UK and viceversa, you just have to pay VAT and the seller has to ship without VAT.
jaapv Posted June 16, 2024 Share #32 Posted June 16, 2024 Not my experience. Maybe there should be a USA adviser somewhere in the process
MDP7 Posted June 19, 2024 Share #33 Posted June 19, 2024 MPB is a mixed bag. I have purchased several items from them that worked out great. I have purchased several items from them that were broken or damaged and had to be returned. I have purchased a few items where the wrong item was sent and I was never able to get the item in the ad. Selling to them is a no go. You will get a price quote that will take a drastic drop. All the gear I sent in was in great shape and MBP listed it excellent, but the quoted price dropped? I had them send my gear back and they decided to keep several items. I had to raise hell to get them to send my property back and they still kept a few nominal items.

My USA experience selling has been the opposite - the initial quotes are either poor or ok, but they have honored it or raised it a little after receiving my gear. KEH on the other hand, drops their quotes, even when I sent them an item that was absolutely brand new. Edited June 19, 2024 by gotium

ColdShower Posted June 20, 2024 Share #37 Posted June 20, 2024 While in Switzerland, I ordered a Summilux 50 V3 to be shipped to my hotel. Despite using my verified PayPal account, the lens never arrived. I later discovered they don’t ship to hotels, but I received no email notification about the issue. After calling customer service, they advised me to use a local address. Since I was heading to Berlin to meet an employee, I provided a Berlin address. However, the same issue occurred because the address didn’t match the billing address. I explained that I was traveling, but none of my refunds have been processed. I’m out nearly $6,000 and still waiting. No one will pick up the phone or return my calls. I will never order from them again. The USA team is much better; I’ve had great experiences with them when selling gear.

The Leica things I have bought were in much nicer shape than expected. I am going to stop in next Saturday I am in Atlanta. Plus shipping is super quick since I live a state up from them. As far as trade in I have never worked with them. There is a store call cardinalcamerasused.com I like to shop at first and have traded all my Fuji gear to them when I went Leica.
