tom0511 Posted June 11, 2024 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I am interested in experiences of Caon-EF Telelenses on the SL3 (or SL2) with the mc21. Would a EF100-400 or a EF400/4.0 do focus as fast as a Leica 100-400? Too bad RF lenses can not be used on L-Mount bodies. Advertisement Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Hi tom0511, Take a look here AF of Canon EF-lenses on SL3 (or SL2)?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sandokan Posted June 11, 2024 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2024 I very much doubt it. I have The Canon 70-210 f4 L lens and it focuses much faster on a 7D than the SL and the 90-280 is also faster than the Canon lens on the SL. The 85 f1.2 L is just slow.
Mikko Kankainen Posted June 14, 2024 Share #3 Posted June 14, 2024 Same than it was with SL2. If only we could switch to afc with adapter, then SL3 would use phase autofocus but we cannot. Stuck with afs, it's contrast based focusing. With S52 you can switch to afc and Canon lenses works very well. Sent email to Leica right away when I got SL3 but I quess this will never get "fixed". Tried with 135mm F2, 100-400, 300 2.8. 100-400 was the best of these. But it was the same with SL2.. So answer to your question, unusable. SL3 SAF: phase detect AF CAF: contrast detect AF (?) S1RII hopefully like S5II, not like SL3 😝
Mikko Kankainen Posted June 20, 2024 Share #7 Posted June 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Almost right. S5II SAF: contrast AF (like with all lenses, same than with SL3) CAF: phase AF (available because there is physical switch to enable caf). SL3 SAF: contrast AF (same with all lenses, really sl2 level performance) CAF: not available
chrismuc Posted June 20, 2024 Share #8 Posted June 20, 2024 thx Mikko yes, strange that the SL3 does not offer CAF with EF-adapted lenses, while the S5II is able to let's hope for a FW update
