Hello, in a review in the photo magazine from 2022 I read the following about the bayonet of the Lumix 35mm, which irritated me:

MECHANICS – Very good in plastic with metal-coated plastic bayonet and sealing lip manufactured.

Does anyone know for sure whether this is really the case? If so, in my opinion that would be "a big deal", but it would also explain the low weight and, among other things, the extra charge from Leica.

What is the problem? If used properly, modern composite materials are often more suitable than metal. For instance, lighter weight with equal or superior strength. Engineering is better off withour prejudices or nostalgia.

The photo on the website shows what appears to be a metal lens mount.    I could perhaps understand a composite coated metal flange, where the metal was embedded to reinforce the composite material; but a metal coated composite flange just doesn't make any sense to me?

Yes, on these pictures the bajonett looks like metal and it looks "frosted" as any metal bajoett. In reality it is glossy and the bajonett has rounded rips. Leitz oder SONICA have rogh/sharp edges.
