CA is however rather pronounced, bokeh is rather boring.

The direct predecessor (I assume) seems to be almost as good as the APO: https://www.pebbleplace.com/reviews/rangefinder/leica_135mm_tele_elmar/index.html

According to Erwin Puts the image quality @ 5.6 is equal to the Apo-Telyt. I had both and concur. I sold the Apo Telyt and kept the Tele-Elmar. BTW the Hektor 135 is the best IR lens I ever saw.

Tele-Elmar (11851) and Tele-Elmar-M (11861).

I see no CA with my 11861.  I previously owned the APO-Telyt-M and prefer the draw of the older lens.  The 135mm Elmarit-R v. II is also a capable lens, but not as sharp at any aperture is the Tele-Elmar is at f/4.

I'll cast a vote for the Tele-Elmar, but I ended up keeping the Elmar since I can use it on both my M and screwmount bodies, and the head, like the Tele-Elmar is removable for use on the bellows.
