My suspicion is that the blurred object is not part of the arm but an item much closer to the camera perhaps on a separate table.

Yes - it is indeed an almost empty glass of white wine. 

Processing was limited to levels and a little cropping and converting to B&W (original had different coloured and types of lights on the subject)
