I don't think it has IBIS, only optical stabilization, same as Dlux 7.

IBIS is good to have, but not essential.

Does Leica M6 TTL have IBIS?

My mistake: it has OIS not IBIS.

I've had mine since yesterday. I think it's great. The look and feel are great. The DNGs are surprisingly good - before the 8 arrived, I recently "dug out" the D-Lux 7 Raws in Lightroom and was surprised at how good they were 5 years ago.

I spontaneously got a Fuji X100VI from my photo dealer in June, took 12 RAWs, looked at them, packed up the camera and took it back to the dealer. The overall package doesn't work for me (anymore). I'm probably "spoiled" by my Qs. Personally, I think the D-Lux 8 is better than the Fuji. Ultimately, a Ricoh GR IIIx would be my absolute favorite - if only it had an EVF.

In this respect, this is actually a smart move by Leica - finally a D-Lux 7 with a real Leica feel. Leica button layout, Leica menu, Leica build quality, modern USB-C connection (although we probably "only" have the EU to thank for that), modernized OLED EVF, modernized back panel. This thing is a real beauty.

Is it for everyone? Certainly not. Does everyone understand it? Certainly not. Is it fun? Most certainly. Can you take great pictures with it? Absolutely.

Bottom line: I think it's really great. And it now gives me that Leica "take me with you and take photos" feeling... 😊

Just my €0.02 😉

Wow, surprised you preferred to keep this over the Fuji.  Was it just because your Q makes the Fuji redundant?

I have an X100V myself, so if I got the D-LUX 8 I would be obliged to sell that to make some room.  Wondering what your reasons for sending the VI back are, do you prefer the D-LUX image quality over the VI?

The nature of zoom vs prime alone makes it difficult to compare. I can understand to prefer Dlux 8 for those cannot get away from zoom.
I agree it is more likely to be the companion of Q or X 113 even when zoom is preferred while X100x might be tossed.

The X100VI was a really spontaneous buy. Rang up my photo dealer some days before my trip to the Netherlands and asked if he has something I can take with me to play with. He received a black Fuji minutes before my call so I ended up jumping into the car and buying it (had the F and V before and took a lot of decent pictures with them).

But upon unpacking and handling the camera it just felt wrong for me. I made exactly 12 pictures with that camera. And as I took a look at the raws they just didn‘t please me. And to be honest the noise of the autofocus motor drove me nuts… 🫣 So I ended up packing it back to the box and didn‘t take it with me to the Netherlands. But this is just me. I could have sold it on eBay for a premium but it wasn‘t worth the hassle - so another customer of my photo dealer was happy to receive it I guess.

I‘d rather take a RICOH GRIIIx or a D-Lux 7/8 every time over an X100VI/V.

On a side note: I don‘t like zooms. I am more of a prime lens guy. So I really miss the „fixed“ focal lengths step zoom in the D-Lux 8 menu (24, 35, 50, 75) the D-Lux 7/LX100II have. I hope Leica will bring them (back) in a firmware update.

Greetings

Thank you for this information. Hopefully Leica can bring back the stepped zoom. I have my C Typ 112, C-Lux and D-Lux 7 set this way. My D-Lux 7 is one of the limited editions. A few years ago I managed to get a brand-new  Panasonic TZ90 at a soft price in a sale, just for the long zoom and flip screen, barely use the camera, but there too I have the stepped zoom set. With the announcement of the D-Lux 8 I had pre-ordered one but cancelled when more and more YouTube videos appeared, also taking in consideration it would have been an unnecessary purchase. Earlier this year I sold my X Typ113 and matching EVF. Replaced it with a sh Leica Q-P in very good condition.

+1 for the stepped zoom! You could also set it to remember the last focal length selected when turning it back on, the latter though not a dealbreaker for me.

If my D-Lux 7 were to fail or break down in an accident I would in all likelihood purchase a D-Lux 8. There are not that many compact fixed zoom camera alternatives anymore. Some people on forums seem to have problems regarding the lens and sensor. That the sensor is from 2018 and the LCD is fixed is not a problem for me. So was my recently purchased Q-P, a 2015 sensor and fixed LCD. I'm happy with it. Everyone has to set priorities for themselves.

I really like the simplicity of the DL8 menus when compared to those on the DL7. However, I agree that the stepped zoom should come back, and the other thing which I will miss is the panorama capability. There are probably a few other useful functions that I will notice missing. Otherwise, if I want to get stuck into some complicated menus with 1001 options, many of which I don't need or use for photography, I can always play with my SL5.

Having had Fuji X30, X70 and an X100T, I did think about waiting it out for the X100VI, but the delay is interminable.
