ymc226 Posted May 17, 2024 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I wanted to ask for actual user feedback on either the 100" or 120" model, with or without the accompanying Leica branded screen. Given all the issues and slow pace of software, especially with the M11, I have concerns about reliability and support. Also, does anyone know what manufacturing and design partners are involved with this product; Panasonic? The prices seem reasonable but I am just comparing it to my experience from about 12 years ago. It's a DLP projector which was technology available back then as well so I am not sure if there are better technologies out there. It's also only 2K which seems limited. Advertisement Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 Hi ymc226, Take a look here Leica Cine 1 TV projector. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sandokan Posted May 18, 2024 Share #2 Posted May 18, 2024 I buy the products from a company where they have core expertise. IMHO Leica core expertise is optics and mechanics. It took them a long time to learn "software". Do they have expertise in TV projection? I doubt it and guess it is a small team who source in the technology. I would stick to companies that make and have made TVs and projectors for many years, and make millions of them. LG, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, etc.
jaapv Posted May 18, 2024 Share #3 Posted May 18, 2024 I would not be surprised if Leica bought this technology from those companies and only poured a Leica sauce over them.

I can't speak for the hardware, but it looks like they're using VIDAA for the "Smart TV" operating system. I was considering buying one of these until I saw the software I'd be battling with. It's a real shame; I'd expect a higher calibre of interface from Leica. https://www.vidaa.com/vidaa-os/
BernardC Posted November 6, 2024 Share #5 Posted November 6, 2024 The hardware is Hisense, a leading projector manufacturer, as is the software. What's special about Leica's version is the projection lens, which is exceptionally sharp and even across the screen.
BernardC Posted November 7, 2024 Share #6 Posted November 7, 2024 On a related note, Leica just announced a second projector: https://leica-camera.com/en-int/home-cinema/cine-play-1 This one isn't short-throw, so it's likely to have better performance and a lower price. mattro Posted November 7, 2024 Share #7 Posted November 7, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) It still uses Vidaa-OS for the user interface. I'd buy the Cine-play-1 in a snap if Leica world-class design team rolled their own OS for it.
BernardC Posted November 8, 2024 Share #8 Posted November 8, 2024 Is there anything specific you don't like about the OS? From a distance, it looks a lot like every other TV/Smartbox OS. I suspect that your only interaction would be to choose your input source or streaming app. Am I missing something?
mattro Posted November 10, 2024 Share #9 Posted November 10, 2024 >it looks a lot like every other TV/Smartbox OS I mean, the camera interface is part of what makes Leica so good. Simple, effective, and minimal. Like every other camera interface, every smart TV OS is rubbish, and Vidaa is no exception. I'd love to see a Leica TV ui. Zeitblom Posted January 11 Share #10 Posted January 11 Two Leica stores were unable to show my JPG photos and Lightroom slideshows in PDF or MP4 format, which were stored on a Mac-compatible Sandisk USB stick, on their Cine-1 TVs. Everything was visible without any problems on Apple, Eizo or other companies' screens. One salesperson said that Cine-1 only works with Fat-32 formatted sticks. If Leica has once again failed to make its devices Mac-compatible, I will not buy them.
