yst Posted April 30, 2024 Share #1  Posted April 30, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) A question for those luckily using the new Leica SL3, does the camera have the IS function,  E.g when team up with the Leica lens of: "APO-Vario-Elmar-TL 55-135 f/3.5-4.5 ASPH." ?   Or the Leica M Lenses?

Ken Abrahams Posted May 1, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted May 1, 2024 Yes, the details and specs for SL3 would be included in any Leica Store page for SL3Â

FlashGordonPhotography Posted May 1, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted May 1, 2024 Yes. ANY L mount lens will provide its focal length to the camera and IBIS will be enabled automatically. APSC or 24x36mm coverage doesn't matter. For lenses without an electronic mount the camera will prompt for a focal length to be entered and you then get IBIS for those lenses as well (like uncoded CV lenses). Gordon Thank you Gordon! How is a Leica M lens with 6-bit code being mounted on the SL3? Does that need manually put in data, or the SL3 will automatically turn on the IS system too?

You can allocate the on/off button to Fn button

If you use another brand then you'll have to set the focal length manually. Leica Store | M-Adapter L, Black (leica-store.com.au) Gordon

Leica Store | M-Adapter L, Black (leica-store.com.au) Gordon Re 'set the focal length manually', does this mean selecting from a list of available focal lengths, or entering characters to represent the desired focal length? For example, can a user select or enter 800mm? Or 1600mm, from that lens with a 2x adapter in use? Thanks. Rick.

I doubt turning off IBIS has any effect on battery life. https://blog.kasson.com/the-last-word/is-ibis-costing-you-battery-life-in-your-sony-a7rii/ 1

It’d be nice if there were an advantage. But there isn’t. The stuff that move the sensor for IS must also hold the sensor still when it’s turned off. The sensor still *floats*. So the battery usage is the same. Anyway IBIS battery consumption is insignificant compared to the EVF and LCD, sensor and processor.
