ianforber Posted May 24, 2024 Share #61 Posted May 24, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Apologies for a tangential question but has anyone used the COOPH Field Jacket to eliminate the need for a bag? I’ve seen pictures showing the Q2 fitting in the front pockets, which suggests an M11 plus a Summicron would also to do so but is it easy to get in/out? Probably the 3.5L might be what you are after, though the 2L is worth a look too. I currently have a 7L with a 2L on the way. +1, I have several, and they are awesome. Shadow Catcher Posted May 24, 2024 Share #63 Posted May 24, 2024 I've been using the ONA Bowery for about 12 years now, tried the Wotancraft bag which is gorgeous, but weighs almost as much as the camera. Not sure which Wotancraft bag you are talking about, i think the 7L one weighs less than the Bowery.

Because the Wotancraft Pilot slings weigh almost nothing. I also wouldn't call the Wotancraft Pilot sling gorgeous. It's quite utilitarian looking, not bling at all. Looking at their newer stuff I can see where the confusion comes from. The Wotancraft bag I have is the Ryker, which is a leather bag but set up like a slightly larger ONA bag. It's the kind of bag I would use if I was going somewhere that I needed to impress a client on introduction, very top flight, but it does get heavy after a long day. That's why I use the ONA Bowery so much more. I also have the ONA Bond Street, but it's almost too small and not as user friendly as the Bowery. Welcome, dear visitor! Nice bag, but bigger than I want. I should get rid of it some day. I've been using a Peak Design 5L sling. They don't make that version anymore. Vec Posted June 3, 2024 Share #70 Posted June 3, 2024 My favorite bag for travel is the Tenba BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) 9. I'm able to get my Leica and a total of four lenses easily in a tiny container. The advantage, for me, is that this bag can easily fit into my backpack that I use for travel. https://www.amazon.com/Tenba-BYOB-Camera-Insert-636-628/dp/B08JFX5VQD Welcome, dear visitor! This easily swallows my normal kit, which is usually a 50 Lux, 35 Lux, 90 Cron, and 21 SEM. They all tetris in nice and snug. An added bonus is it doesn't look fancy or expensive from the outside. I also have an Ona bag for when I do want to feel fancy. (Though I don't travel with it since it takes up around 3x the volume for no additional gear)
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Leica Miami has a decent assortment and are most helpful.

AllenB Posted June 7, 2024 Share #73 Posted June 7, 2024 (edited) I need to go to camera bag rehab but I did just receive a sling bag that I'm really loving which will be my new travel sling. I was surprised that I had never heard of this bag (ONA Rockaway Sling), I've heard of ONA and had the ONA Prince, but never heard of the Rockaway. It's a gem of a bag and is the perfect size for my m11P (with a few lenses), X100VI, iPhone, batteries and other odds and ends. It has a 'must have' for me which is a zippered pocket in the back for travel items like Passport, wallet, cash etc. The leather is kinda expensive but I purchased it as a closeout and got it for less than the standard non-leather version. I heard (or read) that the Wotancraft Pilot series was fashioned after old military field bags so certainly not gorgeous, but I love how understated and light weight they are. I have the 7L, 3.5L, and the 2L. I'm sure the Oberwerth is a fantastic bag, I had a chance to see and hold all of them while in Austria, but they're just too darn expensive and I don't like bags that look like water can get inside if you get caught in a shower. For travel they also look like they'd attract a lot of attention from those unscrupulous types.

I've tried MANY small bags for this setup. Then I tried the Compagnon and now I'm happy. The closing machanism alone is worth it. Another great Compagnon bag is their 7L Element Sling, fantastic bag in a small size, and it expands. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1618400-REG/compagnon_721_element_sling_11_volcano.html

One reason I stay away from ONA (and reports of torn straps, questionable service, etc). Billingham has far better top closure designs IMO for many of their bags. Mostly lighter, too. I've seen the amount of gear some people put in their bags so it's no surprise that they fail. I'm down to around 5-6lbs for my travel kit, my days of carrying 15+lbs are over. Jeff S Posted June 7, 2024 Share #80 Posted June 7, 2024 Look at top corner of linked ONA bag. An open invitation to water. The Billingham wrap-around top (second link) is far more protective, with water resistant material on top and underneath. Jeff
