I just received my Q3 after a long wait and it won't switch from EVF to LCD. I just want to make sure that I'm not missing something before I have to try to return it. The setting is on Auto to switch between the two and the eye sensitivity is set to high. I'm coming from the Q2 so I'm not unfamiliar with how it should work. When I turn the camera on, the LCD works but and when I put my eye to the EVF it switches like it should. The problem is that once it switches to the EVF it doesn't go back to the LCD when I move my face away. It will stay on the EVF then no matter what I do unless I pull the LCD screen out and then it switches back to LCD. Has anybody else had this problem? Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks.

Does the menu appear on the rear LCD or only in the EVF? I assume you have set EVF-LCD to Auto.

Try resetting the camera. If that does not work, I would contact the seller for a replacement.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the menu only appears in the EVF when it's stuck on that. I do have it set to Auto and I've tried resetting the camera twice. Sometimes when I turn it on, it starts in LCD and sometimes it starts in EVF. It's also on the latest firmware. The eye sensor works because it switches from LCE to EVF when I look into the EVF, it just won't switch back after that. It's really annoying. I was hoping I was just missing something but I can't think of anything else to do. Thanks.

The problems I have had with EVF switching (CL, SL, Q2) have been related to the eye proximity sensor - cleaning the area around it has solved the problem. This shouldn't happen with a new Q3 though, nor does your description match what I'd expect. But perhaps worth a try.

Thanks, I tried that also.

Do you put screen protector on the EVF?

Good question but no. It was doing this right out of the box. I went to a different camera shop yesterday just to see if they could come up with something that I'm missing and they couldn't. I sent it back to the dealer yesterday so I guess we'll see what they say. A little disappointing after waiting months for it to come in. The dealer did say something about sending it to Leica for a repair and I said that I wanted either a replacement or a refund. So we'll see what happens after they look at it.

I agree with your attitude: if it doesnt work from the word go, sending it to Leica for a repair that takes a couple of months is not on!

Just to update. The dealer received the camera and came to the same conclusion that I did. Something is wrong with either the sensor or the software which is causing the EVF to get stuck. They are going to send me a replacement as soon as they get one in. Thanks for all the replies.
