Hey everyone.

So I finally got the chance today to take out the Q3 today. I had the original Q for 6 years, so I'm very familiar and comfortable with the setup. I was able to grab some nice photos, but there were a couple issues that really have me feeling uneasy, and I'm hoping some of you guys can help out.

The camera has been freezing on me a lot. This would occasionally happen to me on the original Q, but it would typically happen during times of heavy use, or lots of continuous frames etc.. With the Q3 its happened to me about 5 times already and thats just from me going through the menus to learn the camera, and snapping slowly in single frame. Ive only had the camera for about 2 weeks. The software Is 2.0.1 or something I think?

The scarier issue at hand... is that I'm randomly missing about 30-40 photos from todays shoot. I had 2 locations, and i'm missing the end of the 1st location entirely. It just jumps straight to the 2nd location. There is 1 corrupted file on the SD card, but there are 30-40 missing photos like they never even happened. Also, the numbers according to the file names don't appear to have a gap in them either, they remain sequential. I can't even recall this ever happening to me on the Q, and it's a bit concerning because I have no idea where those photos went. they were good shots too.

Im using a ProGrade 200mb/s (same card from my Q and it was previously formatted before using today)

hoping for some suggestions or new firmware updates

You probably don't want to hear this, but I would call the dealer or Leica and set up a repair.  Sounds like processor problems. 2.01 is the current firmware version.  There may be a re-boot sequence for the camera, but that would probably come from Leica if there is such a thing.   Good luck, keep us informed.

Just a suggestion before you send the camera off for repair, but I would change SD cards.  I am not familiar with Prograde, but you have a $6,000 camera, why would you skimp on a memory card.  I have talked to both B&H and Adorama and they always recommend Scandisk Extreme Pro.  Just a thought.  Might save you a lot of down time while in repair.

I’ve had no issues with my Q3 to date, but would format another memory card from a reputable brand, in camera. If that doesn’t work then you should ask the selling dealer to handle the issue with Leica on your behalf.

You said the SD card was “previously formatted”?  Was it formatted in the Q3 or in the original Q?  Before sending it in to Leica, I’d try a new card and make you format it in the Q3.

Bad phrasing on my part. I formatted the card inside the Q3.

Appreciate the suggestions from everyone. I'll hold off on sending to Leica for now, and I'll try a new SD card like everyone is suggesting.
My current SDcard setup has been rock solid for years. Ive never had this issue before, so I never expected it now. Maybe it's just that time to upgrade.

Will keep everyone updated!

The card gave you trouble on your Q. The Q3 probably requires higher performance from the card than the original Q. Six years can be a long time in the life of a card.

"ProGrade" is a new one on me. Why not try a SanDisk card like most people around here that dont have problems?

You say you think that the software is 2.0.1. I suppose you mean the firmware. Why dont you look in the menu to know this for a fact? (It's probably irrelevant to your problem.)

We look forward to your "update". 😀

Yup I believe it is the SD card giving you these errors. I had a few corrupted files too on my Q3 when I was using my old SD card. I mean you said it has been years so I guess it is about time to change it. And it happened during continuous burst. Fingers crossed!

I had similar issues with my brand new Q3.

The fix (after lots of trial and error) was to completely reset it to factory defaults and start the setup process all over again.

this fixed everything for me and since some 10k pictures the Q3 is now alright.

I thought I was the only one, I see that not unfortunately. Last week using the camera almost all week (along with R6) I had many freezes, black screens, etc. I had to remove the battery and put it back in for it to react again. I have to say that I have also had a corrupt file, with a new card formatted in the camera and always with firmware 2.01 and a Sandisk Extreme Pro SD Card 300mb/s card. I'll try a factory reset and cross my fingers.

Hey everyone, update here. TLDR = *New SD card seems to have fixed the issue so far*

So after further testing, the initial problem seemed to happen most after taking several photos, and then trying to view them on the back screen before the camera was ready. This would cause a freeze/lock up, and I'd have to eject the battery each time, resulting in corrupted file and missing photos. Happened maybe 6-7 times my old SD cards

I got my new memory card this morning (I went for a 128gb Sandisk Extreme Pro with 300mb/s)

Happy to say that I haven't been able to reproduce the issue since. And big thanks for everyone taking time to respond and for the suggestions. It seems to be operating a lot smoother now.

It happened to me with the same card, the SanDisk 128GB at 300mb/s and with another 128 at 200mb/s :(( I don't know what to do anymore, honestly. I just did a factory reset and I will try it these days, let's hope it doesn't happen again...
