append to M12 wish list:

- menu selectable frame lines to override mechanical or dot-code selection

- frame lines for 28, 35, 40, 50, 75, 90, 135

- selectable legacy frame lines or single frame line

- get rid of frame line lever: it's not a mechanical linkage anymore

- allow for arbitrary lens EXIF data, i.e., allow user-defined lens data

A wish starting with the M12? All prior models, including M11, still have mechanical frame masks.

1) Bulletproof firmware, which implies employing highly competent firmware developers, and thorough testing of any firmware release candidate, to include significant unit and functional testing, comprehensive regression testing, user acceptance testing, and finally sanity testing.

2) Any future M camera body should have IBIS.  Incorporating IBIS into the M will only help Leica build its customer base, and enhance their customer/user experience.

THE IBIS does not have to be the most fancy multi-dimensional thing. That is for dedicated camera's.

Just improve the shooting with hires. Would it be a benefit to just have two dimensions (maybe implemented in several key piezo 'motors'...)

The rangefinder is a feature and a weakness.  I would like a rangefinder that was always in calibration regardless of lens.  I’m guessing this would be a hybrid viewfinder with in camera Lidar.

And further and further we get from what makes the M camera special.  Sony, Canon and Nikon will always do it better, faster and cheaper. The SL does much of what people want in this thread, with better lenses.

However, the M11 seems to suggest that Leica wants to “better” the digital M.  My only hope is for a version that is a digital MP.

Navigation wouldn't hurt either. If there's a large rear screen, why not use it for good? In the M12-D, we can limit ourselves to voice prompts😂

Not suggesting anything other than a rangefinder, but one not dependent upon well calibrated lenses and camera rangefinder.  Today I’m shooting with an M-A, so meter optional.

I think the only way I would consider a new digital M is if they made a monochrome D version with a sane sensor resolution for handheld shooting - something like 30 mp. Otherwise I’m more than happy with my m10d and m10m.

All of the rest of this is done better by other cameras, which I would rather use instead. Keep it simple. No hybrid viewfinders, no internal storage, no none of these other things.

Or add all those other things but stop calling them an M.

Clearly I’m not here to tell you you’re wrong, you know your own mind. Trouble is that’s a serious niche in a niche to appeal to someone who shows every sign of not being easy to convince to upgrade in the first place. Not sure how many new entrants a monochrome camera without a screen would get in 2025! I was just about able to convince myself to spend a fortune on the limitation of a monochrome and a screenless but combined? I’d be fearful I’d never be able to sell it!

For me a better display within the OVF would be a bonus. It’s not 1974 anymore. It would still be possible to have it bare bones but I’d like an overlay so that when in full manual I can see the shutter speed without taking the camera from my eye for instance. Also while I don’t need a histogram single bar up the side marked in stops with the current exposure in the centre and highlights/shadow marked on allowing me to dial exposure comp as required. Before anyone says it’s too modern that was the set up with the canon T90 in 1985!

Those niche cameras tend to sell pretty well! I can already sell my monochromes and my M10D for more than I bought them (used, of course). I won’t of course, because there is nothing else like them.
But yes, for me, the monochrome files are unmatched, and shooting without a screen is a markedly better experience. I’d love to combine them. I have my M10D set to monochrome JPG previews and auto convert to monochrome in raw - the files just aren’t quite as nice 😃

I would like a popcorn dispenser and Netflix.

Seriously though - there's nothing absent from the M11 I need. It's a very niche camera which would lose some appeal if it became more like every other camera out there in my view.

I would be happy to see two different M12 models with different magnifications: 0.68 and 0.73. Right now, I only find the M11 comfortable to use with 50mm, a bit awkward with 35mm, and almost impossible with 28mm. I would be happy to buy 2 M12s for different focal lengths.

It would certainly be useful for reading this thread - sit back, watch all the "funny" ideas, eat popcorn, and laugh....B)

Whatever the M12 is, I’ll buy a version of it. Likely the P/D. I’va come to the realisation that Leica will always move forward with their main offering and it will be technologically more advanced than its predecessor. I’m one of those that really want a stripped back model but I can’t see the main model being this. Maybe a secondary model but that may never come.

My only ask is it takes several years to launch the M12M, my next desired Leica body, as I have depleted my "fun money" acquiring my current M setup + Q3 43.  I need to rebuild the stash.
