costa43 Posted March 20, 2024 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, My sl2s is on the way and I’m trying to source a small walk around weather sealed option for those times when my m lenses have to go in the bag. Focal length wise I would consider anything from around 24mm-40mm and I’m not overly concerned about aperture, it just needs to be weather resistant and small (in relative terms to the average l mount lens). I’ve noted that the Sigma contemporary lenses, which are appealing in their design and size are only sealed at the mount. I’m unsure on whether that is sufficient for peace of mind but it would be helpful to hear from others with first hand experience. Thank you! Knipsknecht Posted March 20, 2024 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2024 I own three lenses of the Sigma contemporary lineup, but I haven't taken them out into the rain until now. Maybe I will try one day😈. But I can recommend the Panasonic 20-60 f3.5-5.6 "Kit"-lens. It is pretty light, relativly smnall and definitely wether sealed. Last autumn I traveld to Japan and on one day I took the lens with my Lumix S5 with me for a little hike. It was raining most of the day, and while I had an umbrella with me the camera and the lens got pretty wet but without any problem. The 20-60 mm lens is more or less the size of the f1.8 Panasonic fixed focal length lenses. And one of these woulf be my second recommendation. I like 35mm and so I bought the 35mm f 1.8 lens which is great. Lightweight, weather sealed and with a great image quality. Leicas own Summicron-SL 1:2/35 ASPH is based on this lens. Both lenses are a little big bigger than the Sigma i-Series lenses, but personally I think they are absolutely okay. I use the Peak Design Everyday Sling 3l bag to carry both lenses and the Lumix S5 with me.

jaapv Posted March 22, 2024 Share #7 Posted March 22, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the Sigma 28-70 2.8 as a walkaround lens According to Sigma it’s weather protected, not sealed, but it has survived heavy rain easily. The optical and mechanical quality is far better than one would expect at the price and it is really light.
