Scratches on lcd screen m 11 m

Recently I bought a secondhand M11 M, camera is in great condition. Yesterday is was a sunny day and under a certain angle I noticed a lot of little scratches 

on the lcd screen. That surprised me, because it is a sapphire screen and therefore hard to get scratched. The screen is working flawlessly so it is not a problem.

Are there members that noticed this before?

I checked for a screenprotector but as far as I can see, no protector

Well the glass might not be prone to scratch, may be the coating that’s on the lcd that scratched.. but i might be wrong 

hairlines scratch will be gone, usually people will put on screen protector rather

Are you able to post an image of the scratches?

The black chrome finish on my M9M is shiny in places, a bit silvery and worn around the edges. There's not a scrap of white paint left in the engravings on the back. But the sapphire screen is unmarked. It seems the most durable surface on the camera. Are they making the sapphire softer these days, I wonder?

Are you sure it’s saphire glass and not gorilla glass? If you look real close is there a tiny diamond logo on the screen?

Pictures are a bit dufficult, the scratches Seem to be more on the surface and certainly  not in the glass. 
I don’t know if there is a sign on the m11 m (diamond shape, it is on the m mono) just checked on 2 m11 m’s but no diamond shape sign on the screen. But I’am sure it is sapphire, 2 camera’ s one from march 23 and one from August 23, that would be to weird. I Will contact Leica about it.

Have you rubbed the screen hard with some lens cleaner? Sapphire is so hard it may be that whatever material is rubbing against the screen is actually being left behind on the surface of the screen, looking like scratches. Perhaps some coating from one of your zippers has rubbed onto it or something. Try to rub the marks out with cleaning fluid and see if the problem is still visible.

Did you ever hear anything from Leica? I have a two month old M11 Monochrom that appears to have a faint scratch but I don't feel anything when I run my finger over it.

I don't understand why as soon as people get a camera out of the box they don't automatically put a screen protector on it. Where I live the store does it without even asking. It's just a thing everyone does.

Because it's a sapphire glass screen on the monochrom (not the M11). The screen should be harder than any screen protector. I have a screen protector on my M11.

Now you know it's not. Tough way to find out. Easily avoided by ignoring the buzzword "sapphire" just for promotional purposes and installing a screen protector that costs nothing. 

May be scratch resistant. But scratch proof it isn't.

It's sapphire, Leica says so. I doubt they are lying on the specs. And I don't think it is really scratched, which is why I asked if he heard back from Leica. I suspect it's either a coating scratch (if there is one) or something internal.

Why on earth would you think they are lying? It's heavily promoted in the M11 Monochrom and M11-P.

I never said that Leica was lying. At no point did they say the screen is scratch proof. Like i said, they say it is scratch resistant.

So is my phone and i have a screen protector on it because if I don't it'll get scratched. 

Again. May be scratch resistant. But scratch proof it isn't. 

If it wasnt scratch resistant it would have a lot more and deeper scratches than it does now.

Yes, nothing is scratch proof. But it should be more resistant to scratching than a $5 screen protector. That is why I asked if the OP had heard anything from Leica, it doesn't really seem like a scratch. I'm wondering if it is a coating or possibly something inside the glass. I only see it in bright light, at an extreme angle, and I cannot feel any scratch on the screen itself.

I've had my screen protector on for 3 years and I can't see any scratches on it. Maybe if I inspect it and if I want I can just put a new one on. 

What you're describing of a lot of little scratches is exactly the same thing you'll see on your phone if you don't put a screen protector on it. 

The best he can do is maybe do what you do with watches. Use Polywatch and when you're done then put a screen protector on it.

I've had a screen protector on my M11 for two years, no scratches and dozens of cameras since 1975. I do know what I am doing, I'm not new to this. I see two "scratches" that don't really look like scratches. Which is specifically why I asked the OP (not people in general) if he had heard anything from Leica. Doing a search on google only showed this thread about scratches on an M11 Monochrom.

Never done it on any camera I’ve ever owned that had a screen. Nikon, Olympus, Fuji, Leica. 
 

Theoretically the only things that should scratch sapphire crystal are diamond or silicon carbide. Not that common in camera bags…

That it has never happened to you has 0 to do with the fact this M11 Sapphire LCD super screen is covered in scratches. 

Apple also advertises their camera glass as sapphire. They have scratched for some. Watches also advertise sapphire crystals. They have scratched for people too, and the reason why Polywatch exists (the one for sapphire anyway)  

In order for LCD screens such as the one on the M11 to resist glare, make it anti-reflective and/or to enhance durability, the glass is coated. Even if the sapphire itself, and we don't know what sort of sapphire or sapphire mix they're using, doesn't scratch the coatings will.

It can all be avoided by a simple screen protector you can replace any time you want to. 

Go watch the scratch test done on the iPhone camera that is advertised as Sapphire vs a cheap Tissot watch crystal and you'll see. Not all advertised sapphire glass is created equal.
