@Gateway77 Try 'Avon Skin So Soft'.  It is not marketed as a midge repellant, but I understand that the Royal Marines and Canadian lumberjacks use it to avoid biting insects.  It even worked for me (and I am totally irresistible to all blood sucking critters).  It doesn't work on areas not covered, so you may need to put it on your scalp / hair as well as all exposed skin.

Trying out the Sigma 24-70 II. definitely a better performer and very very very fast compared to version 1 or the leica version.  I gave up the 24-70 sl for the 24-90 but on my tests version 2 is actually sharper than the 24-90, especially at 35 and 50.
