Ken Abrahams Posted April 23, 2024 Share #443 Posted April 23, 2024 Blessed in the Lifetime - The image is severely cropped, 21 Super Elmar M. I am going through the process of understanding the SL3 images. One thing I found in post which is different to the previous models is that it doesn't like sharpening at the end, in Camera Raw. The sharpening slider with cropped images seems to have the opposite effect by increasing grain size. Welcome, dear visitor! Low perspective can be very effective to get animal’s perspective.

Ken Abrahams Posted April 27, 2024 Share #453 Posted April 27, 2024 Perhaps your image of BIF is something the SL2 can’t do well Kobra? It’s the resolution basically and less noise in shadows I am referring to. I’m sure any camera could shoot the same but few could match the detail and depth of this SL3 image. when I finished processing the image it seemed to have a quality unlike any image I could remember and I have all four SL models. best 2 hours ago, kobra said: Great photo! I would agree with the shadow noise. I would add, even if there is grain from higher ISOs, the SL3 noise is much more pleasant to my eye. I'm just learning to explore the differences but so far I am liking the SL3 a lot; bigger differences than I expected. As to BIF, the SL3 even with "beta animal tracking" is worlds better than the SL2; at least in my attempts. I know there are lots of folks better than me, but I really couldn't get consistent results with the SL2; the SL3 at least gives me fair chances to get it right. The image I posted was part of a set, and I readily admit this image was not the most challenging to capture; I will process some of the others to post. I spent some time with others using R5, A1, D850, and they were getting more keepers, although they were also more experienced and I know that's a big part of it for sure. Glad to see all your wonderful images from the SL3; encourages me to keep looking for more opportunities! Brad
