jrp Posted March 30, 2024 Share #248 Posted March 30, 2024 The 90mm APO SL Summicron doesn't seem to generate lens correction data on the SL3. It does, however, produce a much narrower depth of field than the 100mm Panasonic (here at f3.5), followed by a couple using the Summicron at f2: Welcome, dear visitor! Hi there It’s unbelievably small and light, at just under 300gm it’s less than half the weight of the SL APO, and it focuses notably faster on the SL3. I imagine that doing a detailed IQ comparison the APOs would be better. Still, this is 1/4 price! It has nice bokeh and goes down to 1:1 as well. I was expecting to have it in my bag for occasional use, but it’s actually a joy to use - although light and plasticky it does feel quite solid what’s not to like! all the best to you both Jono

Personally, I use Sigma 85mm DG DN and Sigma 70-200 DG DN when primarily shooting in AFc mode. The Leica APOs work as well, clearly, but focus speed is slower. Panasonic has also many fast focusing lenses, 100 mm macro included. Diversity is good!
tom0511 Posted March 31, 2024 Share #259 Posted March 31, 2024 Thank you Jono! I just compared cropped APO SL 75 images to the 100 Macro Para. I don't own the 90 APO, but from what I have seen in the Internet the 90 might draw even slightly smoother than the 75. The 100 Pana images are really nice, sharp, good bokeh. But from first look I preferred the (cropped to same FOV) images from the 75 (I shot the 75 at f2.0 and the 100 at f2.8). The bokeh is even smoother and the midtowns seem richer. Sorry I don't have time today to post images. I have to admit though that the light weight of the 100, the focal length and combination of a Macro and portrait lens makes it very interesting.
