SrMi Posted March 12, 2024 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I used the color checker and photographed it at ISO 100 and ISO 1250 at 14 and 12 bits. The color checker was underexposed by five stops and lifted in LcR by five stops. Below are screenshots of excerpts that are 100% viewed. As expected, there is a slight difference at ISO 100 and no difference at ISO 1250. No color difference was observable between using 14 and 12 bits. This observation follows observation with all other cameras. ISO 100, 14-bits Welcome, dear visitor! frame-it Posted March 12, 2024 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2024 nice, and did you open the files in rawdigger to check the histogram range and see if its real 14 bit or simply 12 bit wrapped in a 14bit container?

They seem to be 12-bits in 14-bit containers. Shooting with 12 bits does not reduce the file size; the sensor readout is faster with 12 bits. nicci78 Posted March 12, 2024 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2024 According to Sony Semi the newest variant of 60MP full frame BSI sensor requires : 14 bits readout time is around 10 fps = 100 milli sec per image 12 bits readout time is around 18 fps = 55 milli sec per image https://www.sony-semicon.com/files/62/pdf/p-13_IMX455AQK_BQK_ALK_Flyer.pdf Brand new 44MP full frame BIS sensor requires : 14 bits readout time is around 26 fps = 38 milli sec per image 12 bits readout time is around 60 fps = 16 milli sec per image https://www.sony-semicon.com/files/62/pdf/p-13_IMX366AJK_Flyer.pdf That's why 60MP sensor are not really suitable for video and electronic shutter works. Their rolling shutter is too massive. 1
