well, while its a greenwashing measure (or as I can see it), I can see the point.

amateurs : I know a lot of people who only have one battery. So charging via USB is perfectable feaseable.

pros : they will have several cameras and batteries. Either they have already a SL2-S or SL2 which charges the BPSLC6 or a noite core or can buy the dual charger - and saving a bit of money when buying multiple SL3.

the price for the dual charger ( 135 euro ) doesn’t see out of reach neither unreasonable - I would complain if it was a single charger. Being dual, seems a fair price in Leica land.

Except the SL2 at launch was 6000€, now it’s 7000€.

The SL2 was launched in november 2019, the SL3 in march 2024. Inflation in that period (Belgian consumer price index) was ~20%, so € 6000 in nov 2019 is equivalent to € 7200 now, so if they sell the SL3 for € 7000 at launch they might have taken the 200 for the charger off the price. Or not, nobody except Leica knows.

since you can charge 2 batteries now, isn't that almost half-price? LOL

I am happy the price stays the same, I was worried about seen the price of the M11

Inflation. Here in the US, since 2019 we have seen our consumer price index rise about 20% cumulative. Leica is not immune from rising costs either.

The new USB-C dual charger is much more convenient for enthusiasts and professionals than the old 110/220 V charger.

The lack of a charger was a surprise but since I also have a Q3 the dual charger and extra batteries seem like a good investment. I get to pick up my SL3 and twin charger Monday😊

Out of town business now...

Next is decide if I sell my SL2 w/24-70mm now or wait for the dust to settle, I know I should have sold a couple months ago but wanted to keep it for some special shots. If I hadn't recently purchased the Q3, I would probably keep the SL2 as a second body as I have accumulated half a dozen Leica SL lenses. (Not counting the 24-70mm which came with the SL2 bundle)

Have to agree.

Price is somewhat reasonable for a Leica item, very useful - buying one and while not extremely bothered by the SL3 not coming with a charger, very happy they are offering a dual charger.

+1

I got this dual charger, and I doubt I will buy another one. But I will keep buying new lenses and bodies :). So overall, the cost is negligible.

Is there any reason to not charge the battery directly in camera, rather than in a battery charger? I'm referring to situations when power surges in places with irregular power supplies might damage the camera.

For single battery needs, no. But If you need 2-3 batteries a day, you need to have the opportunity to charge in parallel.

there is boiled-in power surge protection for in-camera charging

What @Photoworks wrote, though it should be built-in instead of boiled-in ;-). Also, are you worried about charging your laptop or phone directly without taking the battery out?

Same precautions needed as with all electrical appliances connected to the power grid.

Meaning, for me, no charging. But then, I never mind bringing a charger on trips, and will always buy spare batteries anyway. That’s why I would like to have the charger.

Yes, no charging, neither in the camera nor in the battery charger.

I use the Nitecore travel charger for Leica SL batteries which of course works also with the new higher capacity batteries for the SL3. Link here: https://charger.nitecore.com/product/ulsl. Cost about $/€60. Fast and reliable charging, low weight, pocketable. Works fine with my iPad Pro adapter. No need to buy the expensive Leica dual charger.
