Can EFCS be FW implemented, or does it require some sort of HW engineering? Just wondering… In any case, something to wish for a possible SL3-S.

I hope so. I’m communicating with some Leica people about it at the moment. All the cameras with the same base silicon have it (A7R5, A7CR etc) so it’s not a sensor issue. I’m not sure regarding the shutter design.

AFAIK Leica is the only company that doesn’t offer EFCS on any camera. It’d be useful on their M11 as well.

For anyone interested— here is a Wildlife Photography specific review of the Leica SL3 and Sigma 500 f/5.6 Sports lens. I spent 6 weeks in Alaska and Hokkaido, Japan photographing nearly everyday with this combination of camera and lens. My experiences and thoughts are at the link below.
Cheers.

You may be right. 😅 No, in all seriousness so far the response has been very fair. Thanks for watching. Aloha, Lee

The bottom line is of course that everybody should use the gear that he is most comfortable with. Personally I used. Canon in the past for wildlife but I did not like the rendering of the lenses, nor of the sensors. In my hand the SL works well, reason that I supplemented my cameras with an SL2S. I like basic AF systems so the sophistication of Sony et al does not appeal to me.

I agree that the rendering of the Leica offers something unique, special. My favorite images from the trip have a kind of painterly quality to them. The good is certainly very good.

I would say your comments are spot on.  I love my SL3 but I'm not selling my Canon kit anytime soon....

Thanks. Please, keep both! Definitely do NOT sell the Canon gear. I ended up buying Canon back. Recently purchased the R1 and I’m loving it. Like you, I still enjoy using the SL3. Fully realized, different tools for different uses👍

Have a great week.

Aloha,

Lee

Spot on. I don’t have the Sigma, only the Leica 90-280 for wildlife, but exactly the same autofocus frustration. I also have the Canon R6 ii (which is my wife’s main camera now) with the 100-500 for wildlife. It’s autofocus is far far superior to that of the SL3.
