I hope that Voigtlander offers the APO 50mm f/3.5 'rigid' version in LTM, which would pair beautifully with its LTM 28mm Color-Skopar.  Alas, probably to few Barnack shooters to make a market opportunity.  Still, I would buy one.

Well, the Apo-Lanthar's main feature is its minimal focussing distance of 35 (Version II) or 45 cm (Version I). With a Barnack Leica you will never be able to use this as the camera's rangefinder will stop at 1m. There has been a 1:3.5/50mm Heliar with LTM - though it is now offered only with M-mount

It might have served Leica well if they offered a modern 1:3.5/50mm Elmar - though unfortunately their customers prefer the ...lux staff. Taken with the Apo-Lanthar 50mm F3.5 (version II) at 35cm distance and f/3.5.

A few quibbles: fixing the lens to the camera's mount has a scratchy feel which I am not used to. When you stop down the lens you involuntarily change the focus as well - though I think I'll use the lens fully opened most of the time.

What I really like about both versions of the APO-Lanthar 50mm f3.5 is, that Voigtländer finally implemented the haptic feedback if you pass the 0,7m and enter the non-rangefinder cuppling.

It is not so prominent as with the newer Leica glasses but prominent enough.

Here a quick comparison between the 1:3.5/50mm Heliar (LTM with adapter) and the Apo-Lanthar (both at f/3.5, strong crops, no other manipulations in Lightroom):

Credo che le prestazioni del CV Apo Lanthar 50mm f3,5 siano eccellenti e mi stuzzica molto la distanza minima di messa a fuoco di 35 cm. Sarà sicuramente il mio prossimo acquisto da affiancare al Summilux asph e al Sonnar, un trittico di 50mm completamente diversi tra loro.

Can I ask if any other users of the 50mm 3.5 APO type 1 have noticed the lens doesn't seem to engage the 'punch in focus assist' whilst using live view on the M11?

It's strange as the lens moves the pivot wheel so the rangefinder focus works fine.  Just not the zoom in whilst using live view.

I popped a different lens on to test and that worked as you'd expect.

Hummmm, also I get a 'no lens attached' on my M11M.  It's a new lens I just purchased.  Strange.

If I place the lens on the camera it's fine.  Soon as I turn the lens to lock it onto the camera body it shuts the shutter and brings up the No Lens error.

Can see someone else has the same issue with their M10M over on the FredMiranda forum.

Update: I seem to be able to use the lens fine if I turn Dust Protection off in the camera settings.  I wonder if it's due to the lens mount rim bring black as opposed to silver on most other lenses and it's effecting the 6bit encoding?

Just to follow up again!  Seems like mounting the lens a s few times has worn the mount rim back a little so it's not solid black now and more silver showing through.  Lens works fine now with Dust Protection on and also fixed the lack of 'punch in focus assist' which was my issue.

As for the lens I love it.  The aluminium matt black version is wonderfully light and a super carry around lens for shooting at f5.6 or f8.

Also shooting at f3.5 has a unique look.  Small amount of bokeh due to limited aperture size but a bit of natural vignetting.  Unusual combination.

That is me.

it's indeed a lovely lens.
144 grams only
I will order now the silverchrom version or the limited one in grey.
The color fitting of the black VM would have been perfect with the M10-Monochrom........

Ahhhhh.  I tried to register with the forum but the reCAPTCHA just keeps failing everywhere I try to register.  I gave up in the end.

My lens works perfectly now which I'm please about as I love it.  A little gem.
