brickftl Posted February 14, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Brand new rangefinder user here. I don't understand the display when looking through the M10 viewfinder. My preference is to see a light meter when half pressing the shutter that shows me where my particular settings coupled with available light will put the image on a linear bar showing exposure values. I think I've seen that a couple of times but am presently unable to reproduce it. Instead what I see are 2 things in red. First (I think) is a numerical value either with or without a minus sign that appears only if I have exposure comp set to something other than zero. Second thing I see is a solid red triangle pointing either right or left. can someone explain what this display is telling me, and more importantly, how can I view on a linear bar exactly where my exposure will fall. And on a related topic, I'm used to seeing a battery meter that tells me remaining charge on my battery. How do I get that to display? Thanks

earleygallery Posted February 14, 2024 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2024 I don't have an M10 but if you haven't got a user manual you can download one from the Leica website.

Leica M is crude, with minimal infos in viewfinder (to keep it clear & uncluttered) for best viewing & composing. Push the central button at rear, some infos on the rear screen. 6 hours ago, earleygallery said: I don't have an M10 but if you haven't got a user manual you can download one from the Leica website. Yes, reading the manual might answer some questions.

You can download the manual here. Go to page 211: https://leica-camera.com/en-int/photography/cameras/m/m10-black/download The exposure "bar" in the M10 viewfinder is very simplified compared to other modern cameras. It consists of two red triangles/arrows and a red bullet in the middle. For manual exposure, the triangular LEDs indicate the direction of rotation of the aperture setting ring and shutter speed dial to adjust the exposure. The red bullet indicates that the exposure is OK. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! brickftl Posted February 15, 2024 Author Share #6 Posted February 15, 2024 now that I understand how the red arrows and red dot work in the viewfinder, I find this a fabulous minimalist implementation. They provide enough information that I don't really need to see the linear bar with numbers that can be displayed on the rear screen. Love it. And did I mention that I LOVE my M10? So much fun to shoot with this elegant beautiful camera.
