414concrete Posted February 7, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good afternoon all. I just traded my 007 after only a month, up to an S3 as I’m in love with the S system! Is there anything I should look for during my window of return in order to make sure I have a good unit? Advertisement Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Hi 414concrete, Take a look here Leica S3 inspection. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
davidmknoble Posted February 8, 2024 Share #2 Posted February 8, 2024 The S3 is similar enough to the s007 that I would say nothing specific. That said, use it hard for a few days like you would have used the S007 and look at the image files on a large screen. Print a few. You should find any issues. The operability is the same as the S007.
tom0511 Posted February 15, 2024 Share #3 Posted February 15, 2024 I would check AF accuracy (with several lenses)
Eclectic Man Posted February 16, 2024 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2024 Do the usual out of focus image of a blank white wall to check the sensor for dust spots or scratches
Jeff S Posted February 16, 2024 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2024 Look to see if your pics are improved; if not, return it. Jeff
414concrete Posted February 18, 2024 Author Share #6 Posted February 18, 2024 Everything seems to check out except possibly the GPS, I can’t get a lock on a satellite. I see someone else here had similar issues, maybe I got their camera lol. I don’t care about GPS so all is good.
John McMaster Posted February 18, 2024 Share #7 Posted February 18, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) It can take quite a few minutes to lock on, even if only moved a few miles from last location... john

I gave up.
414concrete Posted May 28, 2024 Author Share #9 Posted May 28, 2024 It works! Not sure what changed, ie clear sky, no trees, no clouds, wide open space etc, on both attempts however this time she synced up. My S3 is 100% functional.

So far just a bunch of junk images around the yard as I get myself sorted with learning the system and lens selection in preparation for our Iceland trip in October. I’ve bought four lenses and returned two, settled on the 45mm and 70mm, and thinking maybe if I find a 100mm closer to $3k I might grab one. Bought the grid screen, and grip for the trip, still unsure if I want to lug the grip around but like the idea of extra battery capacity and might suck it up. Kids get out of school Thursday, so kayaking and hikes soon where I’ll get my chance to give the S3 some exercise. Also, Chicago, Salt Lake, and Nashville trips booked. Out of curiosity, which were the two you returned and why? I hope to pick up the 45mm one day, kind of regret not doing it when I had the chance. Also, I returned a 120mm macro after contacting Leica and learning the lens was 14yrs old and the motor was never replaced. All of the lenses are brilliant and I wouldn't hesitate to pick any from the portfolio. I just settled on the 45mm and 70mm because they match the FOV I prefer. davidmknoble Posted June 11, 2024 Share #15 Posted June 11, 2024 @414concrete, the 45mm is one of my favorite and most used lenses…
